What a disappointment. On our trip to Belize this was a third, and final, destination. The most expensive out of all (and Belize isn't cheap) yet the most disappointing. At booking, pictures looked good on Expedia and I expected to get great amenities and service. Do NOT trust those pictures.

I would recommend staying here ONLY if you are paying no more than $100 / night. Anything over this simply isn't worth it. Unfortunately we paid US$1000 for 3 nights at this place (for 2 bedrooms) and I regret picking this place immensely. We paid US$650 in Placencia for 4 nights and the place there was light years ahead of this. I've expected very different accommodations at that price point. If I were to pay $300 for 3 nights - I wouldn't care for such low quality.

"Rooms" are private condos managed by the company. They are pretty run down - tired bathrooms (leaking toilets that nobody cares about fixing), very old and run down kitchen, tiny TVs, old furniture, HORRIBLE pillows, broken drawers in old closets, etc. Weird ways of entering the "rooms" - via side doors in bedrooms, which had horrible locks; main doors' locks weren't operational.

Grounds were in the decent shape - that was the only aspect of this place that looked a-OK.

Sand on the beach was covered with sea grass which staff didn't bother with at all (in Placencia, where we stayed prior to Hopkins, the staff was caring for the beach non-stop and it was a pleasure to see them being so proud of their property) - the staff came once a day to take away a single wheelbarrow worth of sea grass away. Pool was not really cleaned in the days we were there - first day there was dirt and bubbly film on the surface, which made the pool look disgusting. Very lazy staff and unlike other places in Belize.

Restaurant food was way too expensive for bland, basic, boring dishes you get.

The resort charges extra 10% on everything, which they claim to "distribute" between staff as tips. I have my doubts about all 10% making it to the staff. This is something a lot of places in Belize seem to be doing and something that I didn't like - I'd rather personally give cash to those who do a good job.

There are few other resorts on the south side of the village. Went there for a dinner. Places looked much better - well cared for, clean, as they should be for that much money. Even though none of these places really worth what they charge.

The village of Hopkins is a run down place with nothing to do or see. There is literally no point in coming to this area of the country.

P.S. Read the response from the management company and disagree with most said there.

No one really cleaned/raked the beach in three days we were there except of one wheelbarrow worth one of the days. Blaming dirty pool or beach not cared for onto weather (there was only one rain in 7 days we were in that side of the county) is a poor excuse - it is your JOB to ensure the premises are well cared for. Restaurant on premise was "a place you eat when there is other no choice" sort of place. Menu is boring, cooked very average. You've got a sea that provides a wealth of opportunities to have great food. I couldn't be bothered dealing with maintenance - my vacation time is too important to deal with that, especially when I'm paying over $300 a night. However your cleaning service was aware of the leaks as they had to mop the floors there daily. And I shouldn't complain and fight to get good bedding or...

I do not recommend anyone booking here. The resort has a very undeveloped area and the service is not good. We are currently here and would leave today if we could. We loved this resort when we first visited in 2022. But now it's bad. I spoke with the front desk many times and each time it never felt like welcomed hospitality. When we checked in I told the lady that there weren't 2 bdrms available when I booked For the 24th but since we got there late could we switch. She said oh maybe Tuesday or weds. She never communicated with us if one came available. So on Weds I went back and asked again for a 2 bdrm and to extend until June 1st. I told the front desk many times that we wanted a kitchen. So she booked me a one bedroom beach front w/kitchen. When my husband went back to the front desk then she said the room w/ the kitchen would be too small and that she didn't know that we had a child (it's literally in our reservation that we have a child with us) so she said we should switch to the other room on the other side. We asked for a 2bdrm again (I thought I could just pay the difference) she said that a 2bdrm was not available. When we got to the room again we realized that she didn't give us correct info and it was too small, so we asked to switch back to the original room I extended. There is still no one on the other side and she clearly had both available that is why we were able to switch. I do not understand why she refused to book us a 2bdrm so that we could have both sides, or even if we could have booked the other one as an additional 1 bdrm we would have. She just didn't want to help us. On top of this everytime we go to the Rhum Shack (restaurant on site) it takes FOREVER to get simple items. Once I asked for a simple slice of pie to take to my room. I looked at my time and it took TWENTY FIVE mins to get a slice of brownie and pie!!!!! There was NO one there eating !! I had a baby with me and told the waiter that I no longer wanted it and to cancel, but he would not let me cancel and then made me pay basically so I couldnt leave. My baby was screaming and I really wanted to go!! Then their concierge offered us a chocolate tour for $350 USD plus tax ...that is ridiculous!!! We googled a tour company and they charged us $165 USD for 2 adults and 1 kid including transportation, the tour and water. I understand there may be an up charge for booking through your resort which I wouldve been fine with. However, it is clear to me that this resort is purposely trying to rip people off. We only paid $500 USD for a full day tour on a boat so $350 USD plus tax for a 2 1/2 hour chocolate making tour is quite literally taking advantage of guests and we really don't appreciate it. This place has gone way down, and we can never come back here. We wanted to just cancel our room and forfeit the money and try to go to Belizean Dreams or get an ABB. The only reason we are staying is because we have a baby and a child with us. It is sad how bad this place is run now. Very disappointed. I would highly suggest getting an ABB or booking with...

Had Some Horrible Experiences while visiting Hopkins Bay Resort in Belize!! 1. We booked our trip through Orbitz.. We were never informed that we would need to find transportation from the airport to the Resort which was over a two hour drive.. When we landed at the Airport we were two lost souls.. We contacting the Resort and they told us there was nothing they can do as their shuttle was done for the night.. Thankfully about an Hour later we were able to find a taxi to take us to the resort. 2. We ate at the Rum Shack (on the resort) every night because there were no close by food options.. And the Rum Shack had limited options which they served the same thing every day for Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner (we were there 5 days and the Menu was pretty small) and some of the items on the menu were never available.. I ordered the Cheeseburger from the Menu and it was Bad Spoiled Beef (it was a Light Gray color and the texture appeared slimy) .. which I did not realize until after biting into the burger and cutting the burger in half.. I got Nausea shortly after biting into the Burger After notifying the Restaurant Management team they only provided Pepto Bismol and provided one free entree.. I was pretty angry, scared, and wary to eat anything after that! 3. While there we notice we were having some irritation itching on our skin.. It was not until we made it back home that we noticed that we had a Bunch of Bed Bug Bites (as it can take up to 14 days for these bites to be visible).. Once Home we washed all our clothes and inspected our Mattresses to ensure that the Bed Bugs did not travel with us… Horrible Experience!! Unfortunately because there were so many horrible events that took place while we were there that they overtook the good experiences...

Not sure where to begin; the photos of this resort are terribly misleading either photoshopped, from grand opening in 2007 or the architect drawings. We checked in Monday August 21st checked out Wednesday August 23rd. The resort is undergoing major construction on two separate buildings; from our balcony - to the left and to the right we were sandwiched between both sites. We were moved to another room that was ant infested and a faulty A/C unit. There were so many ants on the dirty coffee tray and nightstand, we put them on the balcony! We informed the staff at the front desk and they were to address the issue while we had a planned day trip. Upon return, neither issue was resolved and very much to our surprise they left a can of insect spray in the room. Needless to say we packed up and went to another resort. I requested in writing, via email, a refund for two nights and the resort shuttle fee that was to take us to the Dangriga airstrip on Friday August 25th. On Thursday August 24th, I received a reply and they agreed to the two night refund but took the liberty of canceling our flight on Friday via Maya Air. I called and spoke with a customer service representative and she was very insistent that they did exactly what I requested. Why would I cancel our flight to Belize City - that flight is imperative to getting back to United States??!! After going in circles with the rep, she advised since we checked out they had no obligation to reinstate our flight. This was deliberate move by Muy Ono Hopkins Bay. The front desk at the second resort was able to get the flight reinstated. Attached are photos of the garbage covered beach, dirty coffee tray , blood stained pillowcase and construction.

Spent a week at Hopkins Bay with a friend in Mid January 2025. We loved everything about it. *Dining, the Rhum Shack had amazing food (and lots of GF options), service and entertainment. *Excursions, we went on 3 through them, a full day snorkeling tour, ziplining and cave tubing and the jungle and chocolate factory. We loved out guides and the resort was able to accommodate a few scheduling changes to allow us to do exactly what we had our hearts set on. *Rooms, we stayed in the upstairs one bedroom and then a one bedroom downstairs. This wasn't because Hopkins Bay had done anything wrong with our reservation, in fact, just the opposite. We had booked and then realized we needed to tweak the date a little. They were able to move our rooms to accommodate that for us. We loved that we were able to see 2 different types of rooms. The "houses" are actually REALLY cool. They have a main floor with 2 bedrooms/2 baths, a full kitchen and living room. This can be broken into 2 separate units as needed. Then, there is a second level. It is a studio type room. Bed, futon, table, small fridge and bathroom. You access this from a set of stairs with outside access. If you were wanting to rent the whole house, the upstairs is accessible through the interior. All the rooms have private balcony/decks. *Village, we loved everything about Hopkins. The people are so friendly, this isn't a place where you have to stay on the resort! *Bikes, we took advantage of the bikes the resort has to bike around the village. We'd highly recommend heading down to the Marian!
