I was GRANDPAcking through western Bolivia and stopped off in Tupiza to catch a Uyuni Salt Flat Tour.||I got super lucky. I found a last minute deal for a Twin Room at The Baron’s House (Casa Baron) going for only US$10 / night for single occupancy.||I was a bit worried about it’s remote location … but later, after looking around town, I knew that I had made the right decision. Town really isn't that nice and being out of town really doesn't degrade your Tupiza experience ... in fact, it probably enhances it.||The price was so good because of its location and because they are still renovating this old villa.||You can see that, when it is finished, it is going to be something special (and worth more like US$60 / night).||I booked a Twin Room but, as soon as they saw me, they said that I was too big for the beds … and swapped out the 2 single beds for a Double.||The room was a good size.||And it came with Cable TV and a wardrobe. Alas the TV only had 1 English Speaking channel (if you were lucky and it was the middle of the day). ||Fortunately, the wifi was very good and good enough to stream video.||The ensuite was a good size too.||And the included Buffet Breakfast was very good for the price paid: fruit juice, eggs, tomatoes, yogurt, jams, and bread. It was the first time that I had seen eggs in a Breakfast since arriving in Argentina! Alas, it was only instant coffee. Later, they brought out some tasty cheese.||I have made a lot of mistakes in my hotel choices over the past 4 years of non-stop travelling … but, when I sat down to work over Breakfast on my first morning and looked up at my view … I knew that Casa Baron was not one of them.||They even provided dinner at reasonable prices.||The only problem was that, if they didn’t have enough people to cook for, you had to walk into town to find your Dinner. If you want Dinner MAKE SURE that...
Read moreUnique property nestled in the foothills of red-rock mountains. This hotel is like staying with family. We had a unique tailor-made experience: Horseriding in the desert, street festivals, sunny courtyard lunches with the family. We booked for one night, and ended up extending our stay for five nights. Fast wifi, for streaming data. They gave us a smart TV to watch movies on Netflix in the living area. The property has beautiful views of the mountainscape. The property owners gave me a secluded garden space to paint the vista. The staff/family are as invisible or available as you want them to be. I can’t say enough wonderful things about this place and the family that run it. It will be an experience I’ll...
Read moreWe stayed 4 nights at La Casa del Baron in our truck camper. In addition to rooms you can also camp in your vehicle (van/RV). Mario and his family are wonderful hosts, Mario arranged a tour of a small private museum in town to learn about Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, it was interesting and fun. He also prepared a great lunch of hamburgers served in the garden. Gave us a tour of his micro brewery. We did a 3 hour horseback riding tour also booked by Mario. Highly recommend this place for the beautiful landscape and...
