Hotel Jardim is an Oasis in the middle of a large city (Fortaleza, Brazil). It is located about six to seven blocks from the sea front in a wonderful location; near everything one might need (downtown, Central Market, grocery stores, malls, Beach Boulevard, etc). It is a cozy place with a wonderful garden. All the rooms face the garden. In the morning we wake up with the birds singing outside our rooms. The owner, Mr. Bezerra, speaks several languages fluently. His daughter Neda, who also runs the hotel, speaks English fluently and some Italian, Spanish and German. They are both very friendly and helpful. Their staff is also very kind and helpful. Breakfast is very good. They usually serve four types of fruit (papaya, melon, watermelon, and bananas), three types of bread, coffee, milk, tea, ham, salami, two types of juice, eggs, tapioca (a local tortilla), and two types of cheese, butter, and jam. The rooms are spacious and clean and they all have a porch (varanda) overlooking the garden. There is also a fully equipped kitchen available exclusively for the guests, which is open 24 hours a day, where we can prepare meals, sandwiches, coffee, tea, etc. There is no sign outside this hotel. One will find it only if looking for its address: Rua Ildefonso Albano, 950 (Aldeota). The entire hotel is surrounded by a high wall and a gate. Thus, there is a lot of privacy inside and it is very quiet. I recommend this hotel highly for anyone who is looking for comfort, cleanliness and fair price. I felt at home staying there. It is definitely “your home away from home” as it is stated in their...
Read moreIt doesn't look like a hotel from the outside, hidden as it is behind a wall, but once inside you understand why it is Hotel Jardim (Garden Hotel). There are bouganvilia, and fruit trees, a fountain and fish pond, butterflies and various birds (incuding an occaisional humming bird) visit this green oasis.||The facilities are adequate, with comfortable beds, warm and cold showers, free and strong wifi, and a kitchen available for guests to use - useful when having a picnic in the garden. ||Brakfast (confusingly called Cafe de Manha - literally 'morning coffee) is fine. with plenty of fruit, breads, and some days tapioca pancakes and a kind of maize (farofa) cake, with good coffee (oddly rare in Brazil).||Staff are mostly friendly and helpful though only speak Portuguese (witht the exception of the owner and family who couldn't be more helpful).||Location is at first a little disappointing, for some the walk to the back might be a bit far, especially in the heat, but it is easy enough to get taxis in the street, while buses to the city (Rs 2.02 flat rate) run along the main road 2 blocks inland.||We'd go back - it being so different from the other, mass market, hotels in the city.||Other strong points are security (a strong-box, 'cofre', can be used with a deposit of 200 Rs, 24 hour accesss, while the garden setting moderates the heat, making air conditioning unnecesssary - we...
Read moreTwo friends and I were finishing up the last leg of our month-long Brazilian trip in Fortaleza and were looking for budget accommodation for two nights. Hotel Jardim seemed to fit our criteria... good location and price. Staff were friendly enough and did their best to bridge the language gap between our Spanish and their Portuguese. On the first morning of our stay, one of our group accidentally bumped their head on the towel rack in the small bathroom. One end of the rack smashed. We reported this immediately and the host seemed understanding. This morning in the early hours, two of our group left for an early international flight. The third checked out at 11:00am and was told she needed to pay 250 reais for the damage. Firstly, the owner could have passed this information on earlier. Springing this on a young single female, in a foreign country and short of cash was grossly unfair. Unless it is top-end vintage ceramic towel rack ends the owner is in a search for, no racks should cost around $100USD to replace. Very...
