This is an interesting review to write. For starters, the staff were absolutely wonderful. They were friendly and kind, and did their best to make our stay the best it could be. This was one of the elements that could have warranted an excellent rating.||The food at the main restaurant (the buffet) is where things get tricky and are the cause of the review title. Our first three nights (Sun-Tue), the dinner was excellent. There food was of high quality, there was nice variety in the main and side dishes, and the presentation of the food in a buffet setting was excellent. Despite some initial concern about pre-paying to dine at this restaurant all week, we were very pleased. Then, things changed...||This resort was hosting an event (a poker tournament) and once that started on Wednesday, everything went from excellent (5) to average (3) at best. While the food was still OK, the quality dropped significantly and the variety went away completely (can you say white rice, brown rice, and beans for the sides every night). They eliminated the steak station and pizza station that had been there the first three nights and instead offered a very boring and mediocre pasta station. The presentation also went to crap. The buffet now appeared like a cafeteria. Gone were the nice serving pieces and china, replaced by the standard metal food warmers with hinged lids. After two nights of this mediocrity, we voiced our concerns to the staff. The answer... The event only paid for lower level (quality) of food, so that's what the resort guests had to endure as well. In short, we were being punished with a lesser quality dining experience because they were hosting an event and the event took priority over their resort hotel guests.||As you might imagine, we were displeased. We voiced this displeasure all the way up the management chain. Again, the people were very kind and apologetic about the circumstances and acknowledged that the quality and variety of dining had diminished since our arrival. While this would not change due to the event they were hosting, they did offer a consolation of allowing us to dine without any additional charge for one night at their a la cart restaurant "The Grill." This was primarily made to happen by the maitre d, Carlos. Carlos was outstanding! He is the one who truly recognized the importance of not only the lesser food quality and variety, but also the diminished dining experience due to the poor presentation from Wednesday on. It was Carlos who ensured we had a truly wonderful meal on our final night there at The Grill. (Our server Victor was also delightful.)||In summary, this could have been a 5 or could have dropped all the way to a 3 due to the dramatic change midway through our stay. We kept it at a 4 (Very Good) due to the staff and their efforts to make our stay as good as possible. We would return if there is no event scheduled during our stay, but knowing what we do now, we would ask about any events scheduled during the same time as a potential visit. We would advise you do not stay here if they have an event scheduled during your...

Even getting in and out of the hotel takes time, so keep this in mind. Don’t expect to easily walk to “nearby attractions” either, cause this place is huge. ||The resort itself looks quite nice. I was not able to use any of the amenities, but I saw others using it and they seem to be enjoying themselves. I'm not a golfer, so I don't know whether the ground is any good for a game or not. ||Service here is fast. I found out that I didn't have a phone charger that would work with the Brazilian plugs. Someone was sent to my room within 5 minutes to give me a loan on this electric plug. ||The room itself feels like a downgrade compared to the outside visually. It’s not terrible, but it feels like a holiday inn while the outside has a resort feel. A/C works great and the hot water comes fairly quick. ||The bed is ok but there’s no mattress topper, so the bed is pretty hard. They also offer terrible pillows. Either one is super thin or one sinks in too much. I asked and they did have a firmer pillow upon request, but even that wasn’t good until stack it with the super thin pillow. ||Shower is huge, the toilet oddly had a telephone across from the wall, and the soap is chained to the wall. ||The staff are almost all trilingual. At any given moment, they transition between Portuguese, Spanish, or English with ease and have little translation issues. It was great practicing my Spanish, but still being able to clarify in English. ||The breakfast buffet is decent, but it seems more spectacular in their promotional ads. While they have an omelets station and a few protein items, it’s mostly bread, cut up fruit , and an assortment of dairy products. ||The dinner buffet is much better the breakfast buffet. I was surprised specifically how good the pizza was! Fluffy airy crust with dough that they clearly make in house. Plenty of cheese and toppings as well. The middle section where you can build a micro charcuterie board was nice as well. The parrilla station serves just rump steak, but if you get medium rare and eat it right away it’s pretty good. It cools down quick as well and dries gradually so eat it right away. The giant pan of mushroom risotto was a welcomed addition...
