We came for three nights. ||||Pros: nicely furnished, big bright bathroom beautifully decorated, nice view on the mountains, absolutely great breakfast (cakes, fresh fruit, fresh baked goods, fresh squeezed juice, home made yogurt, cheeses, eggs and lots more), and fantastic service - the manager Moacyr is extremely helpful, great at anticipating your needs, and doing all he can to make your stay as good as possible. Gorgeous gardens, and lots of birds.||||Cons: no restaurant service. So if you want to stay and just have a romantic dinner at your chalet, that is not possible. The nearest restaurant is a five minute drive (part of it in rough dirt road). But driving in Maringa is an absolute chaos. Roads are two way, but only wide enough for one car, so - it is first come first serve basis. If it is raining, and during the weekend - like it was when we were there - it becomes sheer madness. Chalet was dark and damp. There are two cats in the property and they do go into the chalets - so if you have allergies, like one of us did, this will be a problem. Last but not least, internet did not work for the whole two days that we were there. There are also other rather unusual things: on the fridge there is a note that if guests put any beverage in it, there will be a charge of 100 reais. Also a request for guests to water the plants during their stay...there were 15 potted plants...
Read moreMy husband and I have stayed twice at this hotel: once during summer and once during winter. Visconde de Mauá is a very pleasant place to be during both seasons, although you must be extremely brave to enjoying swimming in lakes and waterfalls during winter.|| ||This hotel is located in Maringá, MG, only 5 minutes away from a street full of nice little restaurants. It is very charming and the staff will treat you like you are the only guests. In fact, there are only 3 apartments and 3 bungalows in there. We've stayed twice in apartments, which are simple but very romantic, with cozy fireplaces and big comfy beds. ||||The owner is usually around during breakfast (which, by the way, has several courses and is made from scratch by a nice old lady every morning). He gave us useful suggestions on how to get around in Mauá and did not hesitate to show us one of the big bungalows, for a future visit. The one we saw was very spacious and luxurious, with a private whirlpool tub.||||The hotel has very few negative aspects: if you go during winter, the temperatures can get pretty low and the bathroom will be chilly; their swimming pool is no longer heated and the cute ofurô won't fit as many guests. ||||Overall, it is one of my favorite bed&breakfasts near Rio de Janeiro and I would recommend it to any couple looking for a...
Read moreVery rewarding stay. For those who do not know the region, it is a group of small villages spread through 3 counties and connected by unpaved roads. The two main villages are Visconde de Mauá and Maringá. Although this whole region is most of the time called Visconde de Mauá, Maringá is actually where the fizz is. Good restaurants and nice lodging can be found there, a very charming place.||This hotel is located in Maringá, close enough to the village center for a walk, and far enough for a silent sleep. It only have 6 rooms, 3 as independent houses (chalets) and 3 as apartments, all spread in a very nice place, with lots of trees. The Hotel have a swimming pool, sauna and an extremelly charming ofuro tub (japanese bathtub).||The service is 5 stars, breakfast is fantastic (if weather is nice, is served on tables placed on the garden) and rooms are clean.||In my whole stay there was a single setback, the fact that the bathroom in the room I stay needed a refurbishment because it looked old.||Besides this everything is great. I fully recommend...
