In August 2014 I spent one month in the hostel because I was doing a student exchange in one of the hospitals in Recife. I was sleeping in a dormitory, sharing my room with five other people. I liked the hostel a lot. A lot. The best place to be in Recife!!!!!||Hostel is located in a perfect place - just next to theBoa Viagem beach (don't get into the water due to sharks; the beach is just perfect for running in the evening and you can also workout just next to the beach) and so close to the supermarket, some cheap places to eat (bom apetite for example), bus stop, laundry, etc. I loved the environment, there is a small fountain just at the entrance, there are five rabbits going around. I loved the spacious and colourful common room where you can meet poeple from all over the world, there is a tv and a pc, there is also free wifi in the rooms everywhere. And I loved breakfast - it was so good - there was something for everyone: fruits (papaya, melon, pineapple), bread and toast with ham and cheese, kuskus and sausage, two different kind of juices, coffee, milk and even cake! The kitchen was also nice, there is also a microwave. There is a place where you can keep your clothes just under the bed and it is spacious enough. You can also borrow the thing to lock your place where you keep your stuff. There is also a room to keep your luggage and valuable stuff. And really important, there is a water filter in the kitchen so you can have drinkable water all the time!!! ||The hostel is very clean as it is cleaned every day. There are two bathrooms (with hot water) which I could use (I was sleping in a dormitory) so that was just enough, there was no line for it ;) The sheets are being changed every day even if you are there for a month. ||If you want you can also always get a beer, coke or water in the hostel. ||But what I liked the most is people who work at the hostel. They are so lovely - the best people in the world! Jaciara and Macia come to the hostel early in the morning to prepare breakfast, they also keep the hostel so clean. They were like my mothers, they were waking me up in the morning for not being late to the hospital every day (I obviously have a problem waking up :) Once I helped Marcia to do a cake for the next day's breakfast - I didn't do much, just mixing everything :) but I liked just being with them. There is always something to talk about! ||Then there are Samara, Patricia, Adsson, Junior and Priscila working at the reception. Such lovely people. Gente boa, muito legal. I loved talking to them, especially Samara, Patricia and Adsson. For sure they will give you all the information you will need as a tourist there in Recife (which places to visit and when, about the city, bus lines, the supermarket etc). They can even make a skype acount for you haha (Patricia helped to do it for a woman to be able to talk to her daughter in the US). They can tell you where it is the best place to buy clothes ;) Adsson (who is always working at night) was waking me up every day, he is such a nice guy. And what is most important they will also treat you like a friend and this is very important. They are so nice. Because I was living there for a month I really made friends with them and it was so hard to leave!! ||So all in all, my Cosmopolitan hostel experience could not be better. I loved everything. Even sharing my room with other people every day. I could live there longer, I would like to hahha. I will never forget my experience there, I will never forget my friends. I wish to come back one day and especially to get some visits in Slovenia!! ||Thank you for everything, I loved you and I love you!...
Read moreIn my stay, something I consider serious happened: A pest control was held two days before starting the carnival, with the hostel full of guests, without the guests were warned. When I and other guests returned from the beach, all the objects were out of the room, including mattresses and personal items (some were exchanged of the bedrooms and retrieved later). That night (2/11/2015), I began an allergic process that led me to the hospital for two consecutive days during the carnival. At the hospital I took steroids and injectable anti-allergic. I lost three days of the holiday and all I got from the hostel direction of attention regarding the event was an e-mail lamenting what happened. Today, 10 days after the fumigation, I'm still taking medication and the symptoms are still present. I believe that the leadership failed about not warn guests of fumigation and then not making possible to them to decide whether they would stay or not in the hostel or at least save their personal objects of the toxic chemical products. I'm allergic to the product used and the situation could have been even worse if I had laryngeal edema. The posture from the hostel's direction disappointed me because at no time offered to provide me any help. After the carnival, when I was back to my town, I received the email containing the data of the products used in pest control. ||||In general, the hostel is reasonable with reception staff very attentive. Regarding the physical space I consider the dorms tight with rooms that should accommodate 4 guests,...
Read moreI stayed in The Cosmopolitan Hostel for the carnival of Recife for 5 nights. I had heard that the most cultural and traditional carnival in Brazil was the recife and Olinda, and it really was. Since I arrived I meet incredible people, specially from Brazil, so we create a group to go out every night to the concerts and cultural activities during the carnival in the old downtown in Recife. ||The hostel is very clean, safe, and friendly. It is located in the Boa Viagem neighborhood that is safe and has the best beaches in Recife, that are 5 min walking from the hostel. The bus stop is 2 blocks walking and is very easy to take the bus to go to the downtown, Olinda and Porto Galinhas. ||I really had an amazing experience during my stay and I definitely recommend the Recife and Olinda carnival as the most musical, cultural...
