I recently stayed at the Windsor Marapendi Hotel in Rio de Janeiro, and based on my experience, I believe this hotel does not meet the standards of a 5-star establishment. Here are several reasons why:
Inadequate Amenities: Despite being a beachfront hotel, Windsor Marapendi failed to provide basic amenities expected in a 5-star property. When I requested a wine opener, the staff provided one that belonged to a staff member, not the hotel itself. This indicates that the hotel does not have essential items readily available for guests, which is unacceptable for a hotel claiming a 5-star rating.
Limited Complimentary Water: The hotel only provides complimentary drinkable water on the first day of the stay and charges for it thereafter. In a true 5-star hotel, guests should expect daily complimentary bottled water as a standard service. This policy felt like a cost-cutting measure that detracted from the overall experience.
Service Hours: Many of the hotel’s services have restricted hours. The gym is only open from 6 AM to 9 PM, and the pool and sauna close at 8 PM. High-end hotels typically offer more flexible or even 24/7 access to these facilities to accommodate guests' schedules better.
Room Service and Cleaning: While room cleaning is available from 8 AM to 4 PM, there is no mention of evening turndown service or the flexibility to arrange cleaning at different times. Moreover, the lack of a comprehensive 24/7 room service further diminishes the hotel's claim to a 5-star rating.
Dining Options: The dining hours are quite restrictive, especially for dinner which is only available from 7 PM to 11 PM. Additionally, there is a lack of variety in the dining options provided within the hotel, which is something one would expect from a luxury property.
Basic Facilities: While the hotel offers basic facilities like a pool bar and lobby bar, the overall service and availability do not match the premium expectations of a 5-star hotel. For example, there is no mention of personalized services such as a butler service, which is often a hallmark of true luxury hotels.
Authentic Brazilian Breakfast: On a positive note, the hotel provides an authentic Brazilian breakfast experience with varied options. This was a delightful aspect of the stay and showcased some of the local culinary offerings well.
Overall, while the Windsor Marapendi Hotel has a prime location and some good features, it falls short of the high standards associated with a 5-star rating. Based on my stay, I would rate it as a solid 4-star hotel. For a property to claim a 5-star status, it must deliver exceptional and comprehensive service across all areas, which was unfortunately not my...
Read moreThe only good thing about this hotel is the terrace and the beach-front location. The rooms (if you don’t pay extra) are small and the beds are uncomfortable. Not to mention the rooms are very outdated! The sheets are raspy and as soon as you hop on the bed they deatach from the matress. The matresses are rock hard and the comforter is NON-EXISTENT. You are only provided with a raspy paper-thin comforter which makes you tremble at night due to the AC. The views are nice IF they give you a decent sized window to appreciate them. I arrived at 3am to an “overly-packed horel” when i had reserved 3 months prior. I was given a tiny room with an even tinier window which was pathetic. I then proceeded to request a better room (which they did fortunately) but it still is not the great deal CONSIDERING this is a 5star rated hotel. Traditional services such as; robes, complimentary waters and coffee are not included (apparently you have to pay extra for the bare minimum). The breakfast is nice, has a large range of options, however, the materials seem to be low quality compared to other hotels in the area. The dining hall for breakfast is always packed and smelly (too many body odors) which is unpleasant. The cherry on top includes the showers thermostats is weird? there is a needle difference between lava temperature and ice cold, so whenever you shower you will burn yourself and proceed to freeze to death in order to find a pleasant temperature. The pool on the roof has excelent views but is TINY. Other hotels have extended pools but this one fits 20 people tops (considering the size of the hotel, that’s very very little). Overall, it is a nice hotel, located on a really good beach and near a gas station and pharmacy, BUT considering it’s price and ‘reputation’ for being 5-stars, its mediocre. There are plenty other 5stars hotels in the area which actually account for its rating. Id say this is more of a 4 star or even 3.5. Very...
