Update to the review below posted about 2022. It is now 2024. The hotel is much the same, quite Ok for a few nights. Prices now are heading upwards towards the 400 real level plus 40 reais to park . One word of warning .The hotel is about 15 minutes from the airport so long as there is little traffic. Recently I have been to the area on two occasions by car. On one occasion I stayed overnight at the Panamby. It took me over an hour and a half to get to the airport. The traffic was gridlocked. The other occasion it was much the same problem adding an hour and a half to a 10km journey . Ensure you leave with plenty of time for your flight. Now to my original review. xxxx We have probably stayed at the Panamby around twenty times in the past ten years. If coming by car you have to be very careful to ensure you are on the lateral road to the Dutra and not Dutra itself. Other means to arrive can be by the hotel shuttle bus from the airport which for some odd reason serves all terminals but not T3 the international one. If arriving in T3 you will have a 15 minute walk to reach the bus that leaves on most half hours except overnight and lunchtime. Check times before arrival because if you arrive at a time the bus doesn't run. I recommend getting a taxi for about U$10-15. We were always generally pleased with the amenities relative to the price paid, around 220 reais for a room. With the pandemic it is almost two years since we last stayed February 2020. It is now December 2021. This visit, we were somewhat disappointed with the hotel. The room rate has risen alarmingly, almost 50 per cent to 313 reais. The parking, which is charged separately has virtually doubled to 30 reais per night. It was 15 reais. Little niceties have been removed like free iced lemon water in reception and plastic beakers, pens and paper in the rooms, only one soap and shower gel instead of two. These are little things the management think no one will notice but it is mean and penny pinching. The hotel has suffered for lack of investment. A partial facelift was carried out some years ago but the rooms and especially the bathrooms are somewhat drab and dreary . I would love to ask them where they bought their towels as they are about as old as the hotel itself, paper thin and good for nothing. The room rate includes a buffet breakfast. The buffet dinner (usually at weekends or when large groups arrive) is charged extra at around 60 reais for all you can eat. Quieter nights during the week the menu is a la carte. Both breakfast and dinner buffets are at the lower end of quality and most, not all, dishes are edible. This is just eating , not dining, so if you wish for finer dining you will have to go elsewhere, perhaps Rascal at T3 in the airport. Next trip in February 2022 I will research hotels close by to see how they compare. The Panamby in my opinion has lost a...
Read moreThis hotel is great for short stays, get acclimated to your surroundings, run some errands and then leave. I don't think it's administrated for people to stay here longer than maybe 5 days. Fees fees fees. The price starts out promotional but I promise they will get theirs. It has to be said.
It's probably also more suited for romantic weekends, events, short layovers etc than your consideration of it being a place you will have long term value.
The staff is great, the food is great, Hotel Panamby - Guarulhos; really tries to make it a good place, it certainly is not perfect, but if you want to support a local business with less than 200 employees, I think it's good.
The location is ok, you have to walk 15 minutes to go across the street (into the city for markets etc). The good thing is that they have a taxi stand and even though it's expensive to use, it's convenient.
Finally, no matter how they say they accept pets, traveler's with exotic breeds should expect to pay a hefty price everyday. Fees fees fees. The other aspect is that it seems that no matter how well trained your animal is, if the Brasilian culture is to be afraid of it, everybody is afraid of it and it just gets uncomfortable.
Again, don't stay here too long (you'll end up seeing the wizard behind the curtain)
My advice to the Hotel is allow animals on the first floor only so we don't have to use the elevator with so many awkward interactions. Really uncomfortable.
Another reason why you shouldn't stay here long is that the laundry service fees are astronomical. Obsurd. It's an average of BRL15 per item (multiplied per item). I couldn't understand that, when I got it done across the street (everything for BRL55).
Bring your own snacks and water to put in the fridge, it's not that they charge, as most places do it's just so expensive. Fees fees fees.
You can't hate on the fees you just have to be aware. The staff is as perfect as you could want, which probably justifies them making a good salary (hopefully).
Overall it's a simple hotel with a lot of ambition.
In my opinion it's still worthy of 5 stars and almost a luxury experience if you leave on the 4th or 5th day.
Plan accordingly. Leave a tip for your...
Read moreThis is a Mid-Range hotel in declining condition that offers shuttle service to the gru airport. I found the people to be generally friendly and accommodating, happy to help in almost any way. Specifically, the staff was very gracious about giving me a 30-minute extension to the chicken at a time without cost
There aren't a lot of food options around the hotel, speeding. The hotel restaurant is probably your best option. The food is a typical Brazilian buffet of average quality and average price.
My room was run down and in need of upgrade. I noticed some rooms being renovated with new flooring and other amenities. Not sure how many have been renovated or how far along they are, if I would not recommend staying here again until their Innovation is complete. The chance of you getting your old front dad room is too large and the noise, even at very late and very early hours, was significant.
I paid for the premium Wi-Fi to do some work calls and virtual meetings. Unfortunately, it wasn't working and nobody said anything until I got on several calls and had problems. The good news is they don't charge me for it after I complained. The bad news is it didn't work and Wi-Fi service was generally terrible.
The last note I will leave is that the airport. Shuttle may not be what you expect. It only runs every other hour! Also, it is by reservation only. The good news is that it's free though, hopefully it's times online with your flights.
While I don't have a lot of experience with hotels in this area, I know there are a ton of them around this airport. Given all the other options, I have to think that there must be better...
