This was our second time training at this particular gym. It is a small gym situated in the Black Sea Hotel. Apart from the absence of a peck deck and calf press, it has one of most other standard pieces of equipment. The equipment is a little dated but solid and well maintained, although the cable machine could do with a little attention. The cable machine is a little old fashioned and the height is not adjustable and therefore limits what you can do. The leg press is also limited in terms of the weight you can use. This is mainly due to the thickness of the weights and you can only put a maximum of 50kgs each side. However, the problem we had this year was with the management/owner of the gym. Last time we trained there it was reasonably priced and as we were only there for a week, we only paid for a week. In fairness that was 3 years ago and I can’t remember the exact amount. This time we called at the gym and spoke to the male manager/owner. He was the same chap as last time and he was very pleasant and friendly. He said it would be 60 levs for a month but he would ask the female owner/manager if we could get a price for 2 weeks. We went back in the following day and this time met the female. Let’s just say she was the polar opposite of the male. She informed us it would be 60 levs for a fortnight and 80 levs for a month. We ended up paying the 60 levs as at that time we weren’t aware of any better gyms in the vicinity. We found out from a local who trained there that the price is 60 levs for a month. It also indicates on the hotel website that the gym is free to guests. When we asked about that she said it wasn’t free and it was a reduced cost for guests, but she didn’t elaborate on the price. Clearly, where tourists are concerned, she will charge you according to how much money she thinks you can afford. This experience left a nasty taste in the mouth. I understand people are doing it tough following covid, but fleecing tourists isn’t the way to go. This gym even for locals, is substantially more than you would pay on the UK for more modern and up to date facilities. We found another gym in the area and will go...
Read moreI stayed for a week and was very satisfied with the accommodation. Studio was clean, balcony was clean as well with a good view. What I especially liked was the staff. The hotel has a home-like vibes because of the staff, which was super friendly. Whatever we needed we got, just had to ask for some things, but have mouths for a reason, right? Air conditioning was working perfectly. They also watched my rented bike overnight, which I am grateful for since they really did not have to do that. Also since I generally wake up early, I could watch the staff cleaning the pool to a 100% perfection - it corresponds with my general feeling about the hotel/staff :)
One con is the Wi-Fi (this con is not really hotel specific), so if you want to work and need a stable high-bandwidth connection (screen sharing, call conferences, ..), than this might not be for you. In the studio I measured 2-10 Mbps, (important) BUT! it seems that Wi-Fi and cellular network in Sunny Beach is on a similar level everywhere - I was testing different hotels and restaurants and found +- the same result. Actually this one of the fastest Wi-Fis I...
