Since I could not find a separate area for the Hotel Bolyarka's restaurant, I am going to combine the hotel review and restaurant review in one entry here.||||Hotel Bolyarka is a perfectly quaint accommodation in the perfectly quaint smallest town in Bulgaria, Melnik. Our corner room was nicely furnished with dresser, TV, and balcony. It was very cold in there, however, even though the heat was on. We rectified this by leaving the heat on when we went out, using the second space heater they generously donated, and by using the extra blankets provided. We discovered by the second day that just leaving the regular heater on all day was sufficient. The bathroom is not heated, and has the shower positioned directly across from the toilet, with no curtain. We strategically placed various towels to absorb the water and try to keep the toilet dry.||||We really enjoyed the little balcony with a nice view of the town, and the light coming in from the windows or our corner room. The extra heavy blankets were also much appreciated.||||The owners are lovely and were willing to prepare anything we wanted for breakfast. We has eggs, toast, cheese, and ham. Dinner was a special delight--local, local local ingredients and recipes. We had owner-made rakia and wine, awesome! The shopska salad (lettuce, tomato, cucumber), cabbage stuffed with pork, and chicken in a clay pot were both delicious. We were the only guests, and sitting by the fire was heavenly.||||We highly recommend the Hotel Bolyarka for your...
Read moreWe did not stay at the hotel, however, we read on the internet that the restaurant was excellent and the items from the grill were outstanding (especially the ribs). The owner is a friendly fellow that loves his establishment. He spoke with us about how he could accommodate what we wanted to eat and make all in the party happy. We had a fantastic salad with fresh vegetables, an assorted grill platter, and a special meat roast that he had prepared that day for a large group. The price was a bit higher than the other restaurants in the center, but it was worth it for us. It felt like you were a guest in his home. Definitely try the homemade ice cream with figs and walnuts...
Read moreWe were not expecting that much, but the Hotel was quite beautiful, the rooms and restaurant very clean and neat. The bathroom was rather primitive, according to Western standards, as it did not have a shower. The floor had a large drain and one simply showered in the bathroom itself. Since we did not want to make a mess of everything in the bathroom, including our toiletries, we decided to take a sponge bath as we stayed only one night. The restaurant was excellent for dinner. We sat out under the grape arbor and had aubergine, yogurt and cucumber salads, and some delicious roast pork and rice. The breakfast indoors the next morning was...
