This hotel is built in the grand "old style", with wide, marble staircases, and lots of "real" wood! The hotel is clean, but smoking IS allowed in all areas except the lift (elevator), so the corridors at night can be very smelly! We stayed 18 nights (visiting family working in the city), so we made friends with many of the staff. Even though they spoke no or limited English, we were patient, and were able to make our needs known. A smile helps! Rule 1 of travelling: Don't expect people in a foreign country to speak your language! There is a dictionary of Khmer words and phrases on the Sihanoukville website, which helps to get service. The room we had, 813, was on the top floor, with a balcony overlooking the ocean. The room was cleaned every day, and anything extra that we needed was provided. There was a queen bed, refrigerator, and an excellent air conditioner, which we used a lot, as it is dry season, and the air, even at night, is warm to hot, and very smoggy. Because of this, the view from the balcony was restricted by the smoke (see photo). Breakfast was a mixture of Asian and western. There was juice, fruit, toaster to heat buns, croissants, or toast. Various rice dishes were provided, usually cold because the boys forgot to start the heaters. But there was always the chef, who would serve steaming noodles, or cook you eggs of any type (boiled, fried, scrambled, omelette). The pool was the gem, always clean, with spa jets at one end, BUT, there is NO security at all. People, including builders working nearby, walk around the pool as they like! I mentioned the lack of security to a supervisor, who said he would tell the 'GM', but nothing was done. So, don't take valuables to the pool area! A ten minute walk, or motorbike or tuk tuk, will take you to the Victory Hill restaurant 'triangle', or a 150 metre walk will take you to Victory Beach, where there are many restaurants, with limited entertainment. The area is quiet, and probably for older people. If you are younger and you want noise and action, you would probably be better off staying in the Serendipity or Sokha Beach areas, past the...
Read moreGolden Sea Hotel & Casino is located in a calm area of Sihanoukville, however it is just walking distance to the nearest Victory Beach. All other famous Beaches such as Ocheteaul and Serendipity beach , Island Beaches are just 10 minutes Tuk Tuk ride. So your choice of staying at this property is truly a good idea.||||Hotel reception is really great as they are truly organized. So you can expect a very little time to spend there. Hotel rooms are very big and truly value for the price you pay. Bath room was truly nice and no issues found at all. I stayed at the 7th floor and I could view the beach directly from my Hotel room. ||||The hotel is neat and the staff members are so friendly as most of Cambodians. The Hotel has an in house Karoke Club at the Ground Floor with a separate entrance and I noticed it was getting full during late night and it goes until 2-3 am. Karoke Club isn’t a trouble at all for the guests as there is no disturbance to the rooms. The Hotel is guest friendly and you will never get a bad experience. ||||The breakfast is served at the 3rd Floor and it was truly a good experience. I guess they only have buffet when the hotel is full and if not you can actually order from the Menu whatever you like to eat. ||||You can also find so many Pubs within 5-7 minutes of walking and lots of friendly people around. Beer and food is cheap outside and you will truly enjoy your stay in Sihanoukville. ||Finally, the please is just 10 minutes away from the Main Bus station, and it will be a plus point if you plan to travel around Cambodia by Bus, if that’s your intention. The hotel itself will book you bus tickets with no extra cost. ||||I would certainly stay in this hotel when I am...
Read moreThis hotel is a 100+ rooms and the service is rather cold. The lobby is bright and big and the reception staff is performant although our booking changes (2 nights less) was not taken into account. Still, this was not a big issue at checkout since I could prove it with my voucher.||||It is true that you have a sea view, but in the far (500m). Actually there is nothing really close in the surroundings. You have to walk about 500m or so) to find some restaurant right on the beach. The stretch there is very narrow but very quiet (almost nobody there).||||If you want a bit of action you need to go to Serendipity which is quite far away. There is a shuttle in the morning, but to return there after a day of beach it will cost you at least 5$. So, when you plan to dine out, back & forth cost you 10$. Total 15$ a day just for tuktuk.||||The breakfast is below average and when you ask for water at the swimming pool they claim they only have Evian (or was it Vittel?) for a ridiculously high price. What I liked though was the room (big). Wifi in the room was not working, so I had to use my computer in the lobby. The sauna for free was also nice.||||All in all, this hotel per se is not bad but it is too far from everything. I went only once there and since then I prefer to stay on the other side of the hill. I suggest that you do the same unless you prefer to stay on this quiet side...
