PANDA Guesthouse — Hotel in Khaet Preah Sihanouk

Location: Pretty good. Just under 10mins to the beach, 200m from Giant Ibis drop off point and a 10mins walk to Golden Sand hotel which has a good pool and sunbeds ($2 a day). And only a 10mins tuk-tuk to Vietnamese Visa Office (Pay no more than $5 for a return).||||Breakfast: Not included.||||Pros:||+ Patrick, the owner, was very welcoming and friendly. Had problems in our first room and we were immediately moved which was nice of him.||+ The beds were very comfortable.||+ Cable TV in rooms.||||Cons:||- The plumbing and electricity in the room were in need of attention at best. The latter offering my wife a nice shock at one point.||- Wifi doesn't reach many rooms as it's piggy-backed from the diving place next door.||- The aircon took literally hours to cool the room.||- The decor and cleanliness overall were disappointing. The place actually appears to be an exact replica of what Costa Del Sol package holiday apartments looked like in the late 1970's; odd artwork (The bathroom door is quite an exhibit), garish colours, plastic flowers, metal beds, barred windows and bamboo furnishings.||||Would I recommend to friends?: I'd tell them to shop around first. I spent 3 nights in Panda Guesthouse and I enjoyed my stay. As I wrote in the headline it's a simple furnished guesthouse and I don't know every single room but my room, bed and bathroom were clean. Also I had the impression the rooms are save! I had a deluxe twin bed room with the benefit of aircon for 18,- $ per night and I think this is a little bit overcharged because unfortunately breakfast and pick up from the bus station are not included and no Wi-Fi in the rooms, only in the gound floor bar area... 12 - 14,- $ would be a better price.||The owner Patrick is a very nice, friendly and helpful english guy and animal lover. He has 2 very cute and gentle dogs... Wolf & Lockey! He took them from the street and gave them a new home. Also the team is very friendly, helpful and always willing to chat with you.||In the ground floor of the guesthouse you can find a nice bar with a pool table where you can buy a lot of beverages and good food.||If you're looking for a high-class-5-stars-guesthouse... go to another place!||If you're looking for a guesthouse with friendly and warm athmosphere check in at...

We moved here from a nearby hotel which was similarly priced but too noisy. Panda was perfect for our needs. Comfy bed, fan and aircon. Good towels, fabulously powerful shower, TV and bottled water in the room. WiFi was adequate and it was beautifully peaceful. Don't know what the previous review about the dogs was about because they were quiet and perfectly behaved.||There's free pool, its a short walk to the bars and beaches and the shop on the corner next door is the cheapest we found for any drinks that the hotel couldn't supply.||I found the owner very helpful and I'm sad that other travellers appear to have taken the p*ss and left unpleasant reviews because their disrespectful behaviour was understandably not tolerated. ||The only thing we forgot to mention before leaving was that the curtains could do with extra lining to help keep the light out. ||We'd definately stay here...
