Just like all 'good cause' restaurants Sandan is of course overrated (people always seem to give extra points for good causes instead of focusing what counts, food, service, atmosphere...). However, the food at Sandan is indeed very good, not outstanding, but good quality Khmer fare. Some dishes can be ordered as half portions which is a nice touch and makes it easier to sample more different things. The beef salad, seafood amok, squid with Kampot pepper were all flawless, the beef curry had fatty meat pieces which shouldn't be found in a 6$ curry. And that brings us to the few negative things that can be said about Sandan. It's not exactly good value, 9$ for a seafood amok is downright expensive despite the good quality. And the service is not very good either, the students were sluggish and inattentive, without the excellent supervisor it would have been a disaster. Happy hour for drinks by the glass from 5-7pm, daiquiris are a bit on the sweet side but quite delicious. All in all, Sandan is a very nice restaurant that is worth a visit, but you should know that you'll find Khmer food of the same quality for less money...
Read moreThis is a great spot to try. It is a restaurant that trains disadvantaged students. The food pleasantly surprises! I tried only a few dishes on my first trip, but everything did NOT disappoint. The sweet potato fries are perfectly cooked -soft on the inside, crispy on the outside, salted well, and has the flavor! So I will miss these wherever I go as it has made a new standard. 🤯 I was recommended the homemade egg noodles with grilled vegetables. Didn’t sound great, but gave it a try. And again, blown away by the flavor and bang for a healthy dish. Basically a healthy Alfredo dish to me. Super! Garlic bread was soft, crispy where it needed to be and flavorful. Another win. Mango sticky rice was done fine (been places where it had NOT been). Mojito good. Coconut shake decent.
Service excellent, shout out to Hoeurn the service manager who made sure my meal and experience was pleasant.
Unfortunately, not air conditioned and open air seating. But still worth a...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I had an amazing experience at Sandan! The food was absolutely delicious, with a great variety of authentic Cambodian dishes prepared to perfection. The service was exceptional—every staff member was friendly, attentive, and made us feel truly welcome.
The ambience was lovely, providing a calm and beautifully designed space for a relaxing meal. What makes Sandan even more special is its mission to support and train young people, giving them valuable opportunities in hospitality. It’s inspiring to see a restaurant making such a positive impact on the community.
We also appreciated their commitment to sustainability. For example, they don’t use straws for drinks, which shows their effort to minimize waste. It’s small touches like this that make Sandan stand out.
Highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Sihanoukville—it’s not just a meal; it’s an experience that supports a...
