Surprised by the positive reviews here. Based on our experience, the host, Hak Kim is a scam artist. He asked us to pay outside Airbnb then increased the price dramatically. Not to mention his terrible manners! Felt like he was just trying to constantly milk money from us.
We were also disappointed with the location. This is too far from the city center and the way leading to the property didn't have a concrete pavement. Literally just soft soil. That said, we ended up spending more money just to get to point A to point B. At first, Hak guranteed us that this was not going to be a problem since he personally knew tuktuk riders that could come and pick us up from his place. But then we were constantly overcharged again and again. We attempted to book from the Grab app but not a single rider could locate us. The place was too secluded!
Lastly, although our room was spacious it had a weird moldy smell while the faucet water had a rusty smell. The bed was also not comfortable and had a weird funny smell. Upon checking, the smell was apparently coming from the bed foam (not a mattress), it was dark yellow and crumbling. Totally disgusting! The property is clearly unmaintained. In our first day alone we found a dead frog in our bathroom. The only good thing about this place is the garden and the pool. The rest is just nothing but disappointment.
UPDATED in response to the owner's comment: Anyone can write anonymously online even some of your reviews here were written under pseudonames! You are not addressing the real issue here. Why don't you tell your scam on Airbnb? Its illegal to ask guests to pay onsite when they book you via the Airbnb app, only to significantly increase your price! That is a major violation in Airbnb, you are lucky I didn't even report you! You could have been kicked out of the...
Read moreWe were at Hak's over Christmas; December - January and it was the best place we've ever stayed - no joke. It's not a 5 star, delux hotel... it's better... because it has soul, kindness, familiarity and homeliness! All thanks to Hak and Ming. Over our 3 weeks we got to know them and their family and most of the other guests staying there. There was such a friendly atmosphere and everyone chatted, shared stories and advice on what to do and where to go. The children all played together around the pool and everything was just so comfortable we didn't want to leave. You can see the pride Hak and Ming take in maintaining the amazing gardens and putting guest experience over profit. Nothing is over priced - food is very reasonable and tastes fantastic - the Loklak is the best we had in Cambodia! Hak is happy to provide information on activities and arrange tickets or tuktuks for you, but he doesn't charge anything or take any commission for his help and doesn't push you into activities - it's all about your enjoyment of Siem Reap... If you want to go out to the temples every day then he'll give you all the info you need. If you'd rather chill by the pool then that's fine too... You can tell that the most important thing for Hak and Ming is that you leave with a great love for their part of this fabulous country... And we certainly did - hugs & tears when it came time to depart, but a firm resolution to return and see them and...
Read moreWhat can I say? There is so much to fit into a review. Our family stayed for almost a month and we felt so at home, we never wanted to leave. Hak and Ming make everyone feel amazingly welcome and you quickly feel like part of a big, warm family along with the other guests. It became a community for our kids and every day was such a pleasure. It's quiet (out of the middle of town) - perfect for a family and small enough to retain a friendly atmosphere. Everything is personal and full of pride. Hak look's after the grounds with love and care and Ming's cooking is the best we had in Siem Reap and at such a reasonable price. The pool is bliss on a hot day, just to sit and read or pass the time with other customers, share stories and advice. And then you're a quick tuktuk ride from the most amazing temples and history we've ever seen! I doesn't get any...
