Of all the hotels we stayed at on our trip to Thailand and Cambodia, we enjoyed this charming and well-managed boutique hotel most of all. The ambiance is relaxed and the staff is friendly and attentive. There is a French influence that is felt throughout the hotel, creating an elegant resort environment. The grounds and buildings are maintained to high standards. Everything is clean, and the bathrooms are stylish and modern. The atmosphere is totally different from the mega-hotels up the street, which may be newer but do not have the qualities that a small boutique hotel can offer. The manager made us feel welcome and gave us some good advice about restaurants and attractions. He called ahead for bookings and even planned a surprise for our anniversary dinner at a local restaurant. We have stayed at far more expensive hotels around the world, but few match the level of hospitality provided at this little hotel. We enjoyed several afternoon and evening swims, and frequently had the large pool to ourselves. I doubt a larger hotel would have offered the same experience. Breakfasts around the pool were very pleasant, and the food from the kitchen was quite good. I have read some wary comments about the location being out of town. Having experienced the heat and dust of the city center, there is no question in my mind that it was worthwhile to pay a driver an extra $1 to take us back to La Maison D’ Angkor. It is another world there. The serenity of the hotel was a welcome relief from Siem Reap. La Maison D’Angkor is an excellent choice for travelers seeking a hotel that has old-world character in a lovely garden setting. We enthusiastically...
Read moreThis is a small, quiet hotel a bit outside the city center, on National Road #6. it is fairly close to the entrance to Angkor Wat. It is set up like an old French villa complex. Each small building holds only a few rooms, and the buildings are separated by beautiful gardens. The central courtyard area features a large pool, with a small restaurant located poolside. Staff were very friendly and did their best to be helpful.||||My room was very comfortable. I especially enjoyed having the ceiling fan in addition to the air conditioner. The furnishings were sparse but comfortable and practical. The bathroom was quite large. The lighting was not very good, unfortunately, in either bedroom or bathroom. There was a nice balcony outside the room, but there were no screens and no mosquito netting, so it was not practical to leave the balcony door open at night.||||Breakfast was adequate but not exactly filling. Restaurant staff do not speak very good English, which can create minor problems. The one dinner I ate there was good but nothing to get excited about.||||The pool was a delightful place to swim laps. The only problems were that some of the tiles around the steps to the pool had come loose and the lighting around the pool was not very good, making it difficult to see where I was going when I swam in the early evening.||||If not for the lighting issues (rooms and pool) and the loose tiles near the pool, I would rate the hotel 5 stars.||||I was assigned to this hotel by a tour company; I was on a short tour after spending several weeks as a volunteer in Cambodia. It is not geared towards solo travelers, but it worked out reasonably...
Read moreComfortable accomodation in a lush garden setting. We enjoyed every minute we spent in this beautiful place. First time in Cambodia, we were greeted at the airport by the bright cheery face of Kimsong who is one of the preferred tuktuk drivers at the hotel (we went on to enjoy his transport services on many occasions) from then on we were treated to nothing but the unique hospitality offered by this little haven. All the staff were friendly and accomodating, the management were always keen to have a chat and ensure we were happy and being well looked after. We particularly enjoyed our chats with Yenn. We looked forward each morning to a substantial brekky by the beautiful pool - al a carte. After a day of tours and sightseeing it was lovely to return to the privacy of our little villa style room and relax on the patio, chill in the air conditioned room or laze by the pool. Drinks and snacks could be ordered from the bar all day and until late at night. We loved this place so much we didn't want to leave and even extended our stay for an extra day. Would totally recommend this accomodation. Such a relaxing 7 day finale to our Malaysia, Vietnam and Cambodia holiday. ||* Around 10 minute tuktuk ride to the city (pub street/markets) - if Kimsong or Wannatt(spelling?) aren't outside the manager will contact them or it's easy to flag a tuktuk on the road. |* Easy 10 tuktuk ride to airport (yep, luggage and all!)|* Rooms made up, cleaned, new towels and water, tea, coffee each day. |* Security at night. ||Angie &...
