La Maison du Matelot — Hotel in Alma

We didn't actually stay here, for several reasons, but one of them was that the property is not like what's shown in the photos. There was a tiny lakefront with 2 chairs, but no place to walk at all - the location is suburban, surrounded by townhouses. Too far to walk to town, nowhere to walk along the lake. I called to cancel (due to other circumstances) too late for a refund, but when I checked the bill, they had not only charged us for the one night we'd missed, but also two more! I pointed out the error, and they eventually did refund the charge. Not only was there no apology or accommodation for the hassle their error caused us, but, because of the change in the exchange rate from the US dollar to the Canadian one, their error wound up costing us several dollars. If that's an indication of the way they treat customers, I'd be careful to check all...

We stayed for a night in Alma before beginning our bike trip around the Lac St Jean. Rooms were clean, we had one of the two rooms downstairs that shared a bathroom. Upstairs rooms (3) each had their own bathroom.||Great location, quiet neighboorhood with view on the water, free parking and wifi. We enjoyed the terasse, living room area and even played a game of scrabble as there were boardgames provided!||Breakfast was very personnalized and original but we could have had a bigger quantity. Overall we were still quite happy with it as it was better than a continental breakfast (homemade cake with yogourt and fruits, and hot bread, croissant, with various local confitures (jam) and creton, fruit and a piece of cheese. I understand the breakfast menu varies every day.||We woulf definately recommend...

We had a very nice stay at La Maison du Matelot. The B&B is located right on the river so there’s a lovely view from the large common area/living room and deck. It’s a few minutes walk from town, but that meant that it was peaceful and quiet at night. Our room was small but very clean, cheerful and nicely decorated. And the common room was very large and pleasant. There are 2 refrigerators available for guest food. The breakfast said “continental” but it included a hot, freshly made egg and cheese sandwich and plentiful amounts of other things so it seemed like a full, hot breakfast to us.
