August follow-up to my review below: Expedia offered to give me $40 to compensate me for ALL this. The resort offered nothing. Next steps: considering contacting the media. Started filling a notice of claim in small claims court. Note: Expedia is still advertising the amenities that don’t exist despite telling me they’d remove it weeks ago. Original review: Despite the images of a pool and a water slide, neither exist. A sad realization for my one solo trip with my 6 year old this summer. I booked through Expedia and there is no way of knowing from their website or the resorts’s that the pool and water slide are gone. When I arrived, they told me I should have checked their website before booking. Basically blew me off. I was so sad for my son. He was so excited and we travelled hours, including a ferry ride. I’m not a rich person. Just sad. Neither Expedia nor the resort are taking any responsibility. The Expedia website still advertises these features (the photos I included were taken today - I complained last week, so people are still getting duped). They said there are no refunds on this. I paid for something I didn’t get. What can I do? The resort will likely respond to this posting with some sort of nonsense. If they are reading, I want them to know two things: 1. This ruined a child’s vacation 2. I’m not going to give up dealing with this until I’m satisfied no other parents are deceived.

The room we had was clean and spacious with an excellent ocean view. The issues were the stovetop did not work at all so we could not cook our meals, there was 1 fork, knife and spoon for a room that accommodated 6 guests. The beds were very hard and uncomfortable. We booked this room because of the pool and waterslide that were advertised only to walk down to the pool with the kids to find out it is an algae filled slough. And the waterslide is only open 3 hours per day, closed at check in time. Sad to say our kids were disappointed. But the office said we could go to the ocean to swim, not cool. The garbage bins were all overflowing on the ground and stunk so bad you could not walk by without covering your nose. This is a major bear attractant and is against the law to have garbage bins like that. Also they advertise a restaurant on site, which is also closed down. The office told us to take our complaint up with the owner, unreal.

We just arrived home from our 4 annual beach vacation at The Qualicum bay resort. We stay in the 2nd floor kitchen unit and find it a perfect fit for 2 adults and 2 kids. We spend our days across the road at the beach (we always have the entire beach to ourselves ) and our evenings playing games, doing crafts and having movie nights. We find the room to be the perfect comfy place to land after a day out and about in the sun. I pack like we are going camping and we call it our glamper lol The Dizzy zebra food truck and Cone zone are both fantastic and great to have those options steps away. If you are tired of the hustle and bustle if camping we highly recommend Qualicum bay resort as an affordable, relaxing comfortable place for families to have a beach vacation

lived here for 5 years. New owners came in 4.5 years ago. Their attitude and behaviour was great first 6 months then their true nature bore its ugly head. Housekeeping was disgusting. Rarely used the public facilities, many times they were overflowing with raw stinky sewage, garbage cans not emptied, toilet seats busted off, floor dirty. It was horrid. I had the female owner driving past me on a golf cart with 2 other women. I asked her if she had seen the state of the washrooms and she said to me , yes, I cleaned them yesterday. Impossible. Not one of my finer moments but i immediately said to her she was lying. Things just went downhill from there. About 1.5 years ago they informed permanent renters they would have to begin to pay their own hydro. No problem. I had no rent increases since i moved in. Until they metered my site, I was told it would be $150 a month for hydro in winter then $100 the rest of the time. I used propane for heating, hot water and cooking. Very little electricity was used. Took them 6 months to get me a meter then the first month which was May, they said the bill was $120. June and July was 60-70. Then September was $170. No way i was paying that. Got them to reread the meter and they came back with $52. Next month I paid the same and would like an explanation. Was told it was their error as they had to read my meter backwards and they made a mistake. When questioned what that meant they shrugged their shoulders. That's just the way it is. Well, come November they wanted $160. Neighbours bills were around 50-80 bucks a month. November I had 3 power outages. First time I checked where I was plugged into their system, the box on the pole had an inch hole burnt through it. My cord was a bit fried but it still worked. I plugged it into the neighbouring sites outlet as the site was empty and informed the office that the box needed help. I was told till it was replaced to just use the site next doors power. I replaced the plug on my cord a few days later. 3 weeks down the road, around 10 at night the power went out again. Was dark outside but could see the owners wife driving out of the site. I go check my power cord and she had unplugged it. So i plugged it back in and went to the office in the morning to complain. One week later, a bit earlier in the evening, the power went out again. |this time it was the owners husband who unplugged it. Was getting tired of this buffoonery. Went again to the office and complained and asked why they had not repaired the box yet. Well, everyone either forgot or was not told. I confronted the husband and he denied unplugging my power then said i was not to be using that outlet after being told to. Enough, it was becoming a 3 ring circus. What could have and should have been a great place as before was was quickly falling into disrepair. Health Department shut the pool down. Poor internet, TV inconsistent if you had any cable. Too many things had made it suck so I left. Much...

BEWARE of this resort. It is extremely run down and dilapidated. It's obvious these owners do not put the work required into the maintenance and safety of this place. I stayed with my friend and our 6 children in one of the "cottages".||The first night, after reception was closed, we realized that we only had four forks and three plates to eat from. That made feeding 8 of us very challenging! When we informed them, they eventually stocked us properly, but this is not the first time the staff have neglected to check on stock, as per other reviews!||We were excited to swim in the outdoor pool, only to learn upon check in that it was closed as their permitting was not valid. Extremely disappointing but not surprising as we witnessed the rest of the run down resort.||So, we allowed our children to play on the playground and in the sand volleyball area only to learn how dangerous that was. With absolutely no maintenance or regard for safety, this playground was a danger zone. One child gashed her foot open on an exposed cement base of the swings which is supposed to be covered with sand. The sand looked like it has not been replenished in 10 years+! My daughter cut her knee in the sand volleyball court on a rock because the sand was so bad, which, again refers to neglect and lack of concern for safety here. The teeter-totter had a missing seat (just a metal bar to sit on) and the spinning structure had a buoy in replace of a seat. Lastly, the zip line was so saggy that my kids hit their bums on the ground trying it out. We didn't allow the kids to play here, as a result.||So that left the waterslide, which is only open from 1-4pm and has major safety concerns as well with the pool in which they exit the slide being so very small that the kids hit themselves on the cement walls as they shot out of the slide. You could see that there were pool noodles acting as bumpers along the edges, but they were coming off and not effective. When we witnessed a man shoot out, he hit the End of the pool wall. It was so dangerous.||The cleaning people smoke. Everywhere! They smoke below our patio as we're enjoying coffee outside. They smoke while riding around the golf carts and anywhere I saw them, they were smoking. It was awful!||The worst part was when I tried to speak to the owner, she completely ignored me. She was not available when I was checking out so I said I'd call back. I tried for a month, left over a dozen messages and emails and she continues to ignore me! This is not the way to run a business. We spent over $350 per night and we got garbage! This ended up being a super stressful vacation for two busy moms that just wanted a break. I would save your money and stay elsewhere. It's not worth the hassles...

I stayed Qualicum Bay resort for 5 nights in a Back-in Lake side RV site from July 6-July 11th( NOTE there is NO LAKE ) . I will say this place is an absolute dump with poor management and staff. Check in was a long slow process with employees that are noticeably tired and unhappy with their workplace. The owner of the campsite was chit chatting about his new place with front desk adding an additional 10/15min to my check in. Upon arrival to my camp site there was broken glass everywhere, used toilet paper all over the site among many other pieces of garbage. The fire pit was also full of garbage making it look like a garbage bin instead of a fire pit. When booking this campsite, it advertised a swimming pond and water slide. The swimming pond is closed, come to find out it has never been opened and is turning into a swamp. The water slide is only open from 1-4pm, however there were 2 out of the 5 days that it was not even opened. When complaining to the front desk they just shrugged their shoulders and said there was nothing they could do. When I asked repeatedly to talk to the owner or manager he would simply just not show up after they said to wait at my campsite for him. One of the days he drove by my campsite at an inappropriate speed, most likely to avoid speaking with me. The entire campground is full of garbage and hazards that are unsafe and dangerous. I picked up at least 10 pieces of glass from the playground. The staff openly not happy with management. All the amenities advertised are broken, dirty and run down if they are even open or working. I chose to camp there for a week because I needed to work during this trip. The Wi-fi does not work at all. The public washrooms are old, dirty and run down. I had family members staying in 2 of the cabins, upon their arrival the amount of stuff that did not work was outrageous. You are required to bring all linens, cutlery ect. The only thing that is included in the cabin is a hot plate and washroom. The two only amenities that are included in the cabins...
