We went for our wedding anniversary. It was very disappointing.
I had booked the romantic package which means a late checkout (1) pm, sparkling wine and chocolates. I wanted to surprise my husband since I'm always forgetting our anniversary (my bad I know). When we showed up the reception was in a tiny room and we had to wait outside cause there was a line-up (which is fine). When we got in they said the checkout was at 11 so I had to tell the person at the reception that it was supposed to be at 1, in front of my husband. The receptionist seemed confused but then confirmed it. Then we got to the room and there was no sparkling wine or chocolates, so I had to go back to the reception and obviously blow the tiny surprise I had set up.
The guy at the reception did not seem to remember me even though it had been 2 minutes since our check-in. And the couple before us during check-in had gotten the wrong key so they were also in line.
The guy seemed to have no idea what I was talking about w the wine etc. so I had to remind him that I corrected my check-out time since we had the "romantic package" and he said that I was wrong since everything was well noted in his file, whatever that means. I then said "well the wine and chocolates not there" and finally a lady behind him said she would bring them.
We then sat in front of our room in our patch of yard to relax and watched her run around gathering the stuff. It all felt very unprofessional.
The room was very small, no tea kettle, just coffee even though we had a kitchenette. Again these are small things but the pricepoint there is not so small so one would expect certain things. I only drink tea so it was a bit annoying.
The grounds are nice but really sparse and the pool is hardly bigger than a jacuzzi. And though there was a gorgeous barn with twinkly lights and a lovely view, they had closed down the bar so there was nothing to do and no one there.
It just felt like they are using the aesthetic as a cover for a pretty cheap operation. Very little charm.
The chocolates were amazing though, sourced from a local chocolatier and the sparkling wine was also local and delicious. But all in all, not worth it. Get a cheaper room in a less hip place and buy the wine and chocolates.
We won't be going...
Read moreHorrible experience at the Beatnik hotel, here’s why:
My girlfriend and I booked a room thinking we would have a nice get-away near the Balnea spa. By looking at their website, the Beatnik seemed great, nice modern place with cozy rooms and good common areas... don’t be fooled, the photos don’t give justice at all to reality.
The place is an old summer camp refurbished partially to give it a new look with black painted walls. The rooms are minuscule, leaving absolutely no room to leave your luggage (even less if you envision doing snow sports). We were given a family room, under the promise that the other bed was in another room, not at all close to the master bed... we were fooled.
Showers are tiny, don’t even think of being two within them, you’ll have a hard time alone.
Walls are not well insulated, you will hear everything in the corridors, including the doors opening/closing when someone enters or exists the facility.
Upon realizing that the room wasn’t at all to our convenience (which we did by simply looking at it), we politely asked the staff if we could cancel our reservation. The hotel wasn’t at all fully booked, so we weren’t losing them any potential customers by cancelling. Yet, they argued that it was policy to not accept cancellations and would not refund us at all (which is their right, but definitely it how you treat people right)
We eventually preferred going to stay the night somewhere else, even if they wouldn’t refund us. That’s how bad our experience was.
The Beatnik would be a great hostel, unfortunately with it’s 150$ per room, you can’t expect to be pleased at all.
Stay somewhere else, it’s...
Read moreNot sure why they called this a hotel because it's anything but... more like a former summer camp cabin painted with black ceilings and modern decor that charges way too much for what you get. Walls are wood panels so you hear everything, and there's no A/C, so you have to open the windows and use their pedestal fans. Make sure you don't get the room next to the front entrance or you'll hear everyone coming in since the window is right next to the front door (with a wonderful smell of second hand smoke). Modern decor but no TVs in the room, no telephone and no alarm clock. Our shower stall was miniature... I've been in bigger showers in camping trailers. At 5'5, I was too tall for it. Other than that, the room was clean and the beds comfy. I was going to give 2 stars since the staff seemed nice until I was told to stop talking in the hall by the owner at 9am... all I did was answer a question as I walked towards my room (I wasn't loud at all). Also, they will charge your card an extra $150 and refund you the next day if you didn't smoke or make any damage in the room (very strange system...usually hotels just pre-authorize but they actually charge then refund?). When you reserve, they tell you they offer continental breakfast leading you to believe you'll get one but you have to pay extra for it. The "beat bistro" is just any empty counter and your in the middle of nowhere so make sure you bring stuff to eat and drink. Honestly, they shouldn't call this a hotel... an Inn or "hipster...
