I was really excited to try glamping for 3 nights as a relaxing getaway from the city. The pictures and website content was amazing until I actually arrived. We were greeted and given a tour by an employee who rushed and forgot the whole 'welcoming' element of their job. The biggest complaint is that these sites are very close to Hwy. 10. You can hear and see the traffic which defeats the whole 'woods experience'. When I mentioned to the greeter my surprise at this, I was advised that there are 'ear-plugs in the tent'. Next up--the wood-fired stove inside the tent. We were told to fill up the stove with wood and not touch the damper of the stack as the previous couple were smoked out. We followed instructions and still we had a lot of smoke. We texted for help and they came promptly and made adjustments to the stove door. Before bed, we added more wood, closed the tent flaps and went to bed only to be woken up by a tent full of smoke and watery eyes. We texted for help again and were brought a propane heater which we were afraid to put on based on the smoke in the tent and ventilation concerns. We stayed up airing out the tent and went to sleep with earplugs, cold and very tired. Another surprise was that the outdoor shower did not have bathrobes. At this time of year, the temp drops to 4-5C in the evening/morning so if you are accepting guests at this price point, we were expecting this consideration at a minimum. The farm animals were not available either as we were advised they were away for the winter. Another disappointment. Lastly, we were not asked for dietary needs in an email prior to our arrival and when we arrived, we were asked to fill out a form for breakfast. We asked about gluten-free options and were advised that they are 'pretty sure we don't have any--maybe our owner can buy some for you'. We decided in the morning to leave after 1 miserable night. This set up is not up to par for the premium price we have paid ($284/nt) and not prepared to host guests in the fall. We went mid-Oct. When we texted the owner to let them know we were leaving, they did offer to 're-build' the oven stack (they apparently had the material on hand but chose not to ensure it was in working order before accepting us especially after a previous 'smoke out' before our stay). We were told that they did buy gluten-free breakfast items however, it was too little too late for us at that point. When we asked for a refund, we were told that as per 'policy', our stay is non-refundable. What a short sighted approach. While we didn't expect a full refund, a partial would have sufficed to show that they made some big errors that affected...
Read moreThis is the ultimate glamping experience which provided total comfort with a camping feel!
My husband planned a 4 night stay as a getaway to have some quality time, serenity, a break from technology, an opportunity to connect with nature and to celebrate my birthday! Most incredible getaways are several hours drive from Toronto. This is like a little hidden gem, close enough to Toronto to make the drive reasonable but still with a feel like you have been transported to a magical far away place!
Upon arrival I got to meet Aimee and was instantly in admiration of the establishment she has created and maintained. She truely made the experience by being so kind, courteous, professional and was just genuinely herself which shined through in our conversations which we got to have quite a few due to our longer stay.
Since this stay was booked as a surprise I didnt have any correspondance with Aimee for the coordination but if my husband booked it without issue, it was likely due to the seamlessness of Aimee's registration process!
The property was well maintained, and you can tell a lot of thought and detail went into the design of the yurts and the facilities including the decoration. Everything was aesthetically pleasing which was a delight for fellow picture takers like myself!
Despite it being a chilly October weekend, everything was warm and cozy, there was always a huge stock of firewood, we were checked in on regularily to ensure we had enough of everything we needed such as propane for the BBQ ect...and Aimee was also oncall to us if we had anything we needed at any time. Literally everything we needed was provided. Our room had a coffee machine, water cooler, loads of blankets, white noise machine, bluetooth speaker and much more helpful things to make the experience awesome!
The facility is dog friendly, which not all glamping experience are surprisingly enough and not only did my fur baby get loved on by the staff and owner but the owner's friendly fur babies were an absolute delight and so loving and freindly themselves!
Seeing the goats and bunnies were a delight and an added joyus experience for me as an animal lover!
Not to mention all of the amazing products that Alabster Acres sells (the specialty maple syrups, jams and goats milk soaps to name a few).
Highly reccammend this establishment for your glamping experience! Looking forward to my next visit and continuing to purchase quality products from the...
Read moreThis was a magical getaway! The rooms were fantastic, very cozy, pretty and done with a lot of effort. King size bed, warmed up. Two heaters from propane and actual wood stove. Room was decorated with winter and forest touches which was very unique. Also a couch and table in the room. Small thing, our outside lights were not working well, which dimmed our experience outside of our hut a bit. We wished the lights were working because our neighbours had them and it looked so pretty haha. Animals were adorable, we could pet them and take pictures. Also fed them grass a little bit. Hut was made from wood and rubber grade sheeting was placed bit too close to road but still in the forest type of environment. Staff was ok, we expected some kind of a welcome package or at least a response a week before but we have not received any responses up until 18 hours before arrival which kind of worried us a bit having poor experience in past. Upon arrival, we were introduced by a young lady who quickly showed us around and that was all of the communication we had. They did let us know we can contact them for help but when propane ran out and we texted for someone to come and change it, we have not heard from anyone for hours so we just ended up doing it ourselves. Breakfast consisted of tea, coffee, fruits and pastries. Toilet was outdoor and could defiantely be improved. Same with shower - but I guess those items were not the reason why we have gone. Overall, it was magical for us. Maybe the setting or the atmosphere, but it was worth it. Laying in the outdoor hut, in forest, by woodstove is fantastic. Definately possible to make some improvements but it was great and we thank you...
