We booked a room in Calgary. When we arrived, the owner greeted us with a smile and said, “It’s your first time here, right? I upgraded your room.” He then directed us to a room right at the entrance—the exact one I had specifically avoided when booking.
I had paid extra for a second-floor room because I was traveling with my young daughter. I politely explained this and asked to see the room I had reserved. Instead of assisting, the owner became defensive and aggressive, saying, “You don’t trust me?” I insisted on seeing the room I paid for, but he told me it was already taken. He then said that if I didn’t want the entrance room, I would have to leave.
When I asked about a refund, he told me to contact my travel agency, which I did, and I was waiting to hear back from them. Shortly afterward, he said, “I don’t want to waste my time—get out.” While I was trying to explain that I needed written confirmation of the refund, the owner suddenly and aggressively took my personal belongings and carried them outside. When I followed him to stop him from handling our things, my daughter came with me. At that point, he pushed my young daughter, injuring her leg.
We were forced out with our belongings, and even had our shoes thrown outside. The situation escalated to the point where I had to call the police.
This experience was extremely upsetting and unacceptable. The owner was physically aggressive toward both me and my child, which is shocking and disturbing behavior.
I cannot recommend this guest house. Please be cautious—what started as a supposed “upgrade” quickly turned into dishonesty, aggression, and violence. No guest, especially a child, should ever be...
Read moreWe booked the Family Adventure Bunk Room for our family of six, and it turned out to be just perfect. The kids were thrilled with the adult-sized bunk beds as It felt like a fun sleepover for them. My sister came in from Toronto with her little one and stayed on the other double bunk, which was much more comfortable than we expected thanks to the memory foam mattresses. We stayed for two nights at the end of August and all of us slept really well, even with other guests staying upstairs. A great tip: If you book the Economy Double Room along with the Family Bunk Room, you actually get the entire lower level to yourselves, so it feels like a private suite. It’s not fully self-contained since the kitchen is upstairs, but that didn’t bother us at all as we mostly ate out and just used the microwave for quick reheats.
The whole guesthome was very clean, well laid out, and comfortable. We even ended up making friends with a lovely couple from Latvia who were staying at the same time and joined us for a fun day at Heritage Park, which was on both of our lists of things to explore. Overall, this place worked out well for our big group, and we definitely saved money compared to booking two hotel rooms. My husband and I would absolutely recommend it to families who want to stay together instead of...
Read moreGreat budget-friendly spot near the Rockies—only 1h 20m to Banff by car! Clean and affordable, with a social vibe. We were going to take the bus which picks you up one station over from the guesthouse for only $12.50 per person, but we met another couple at the guesthome who gave us a ride to Banff (just chipped in for gas). This place is a great location for access to both mountain adventures and Calgary attractions like Heritage Park, Studio Bell and the Calgary Zoo. We hope to be able to come back for another...
