I travelled with my family that had just arrived from Europe on May 8th. 2025 We departed from near Kamloops at 7 AM on what turned out to be a very long drive. We stopped for lunch in Nakusp. While in Nakusp I made a phone call to the Magnuson Hotel in Creston to reserve two rooms for the evening. My choice of this hotel was the fact that it was listed as pet friendly. Arriving very late and travel worn the desk clerk seemed friendly enough at first. The first room booked ( a double) was for my European family and the second room booked was to be a single for myself and my five year old gentle Golden retriever. While booking the desk clerk informed me that a single room was not available and he was going to put me in a double room. After the reservation was written up he says to me that he does not want any dog hair on the second bed. I informed him that I had with me my dogs bed and that she sleeps on the floor and not on the bed but if she were to walk up to the second bed and accidentally rub up against while walking past it I could not guarantee that there wouldn’t be a few hairs that land in the bed. Dog hair after all can also be airborne and fly around if a dog were to scratch itself. Any pet owner should know that. This night clerk was very adamant about hair on the second bed, and while she sleeps on the floor that I could not guarantee that a few hairs would not end up on the second bed. Again I told him repeatedly that I could not guarantee a few hairs. He then went on to make scratching motions with his hands and said that he did not want my dog to scratch the walls. Excuse me! What kind of a dog did he think I had. By this time being very tired I started to get angry with him and told him to forget my reservation and cancel the room. He just went on and on about hair on the second bed. I stated that it was not my fault that they did not have the single room that I had reserved and insisted he cancel the transaction which he eventually did. Now my issue as being affiliated with hotel rules that if a double room is rented and only one bed is used is that the entire room should be cleaned and BOTH beds are to be totally changed and made up for the next guests. I left there angry and very frustrated and dead tired late at night to back track and find accommodation elsewhere away from my family. After this awful experience I do not recommend this hotel to anyone and certainly not to anyone travelling with a very well behaved pet. The worst experience ever. I did however mention that I would place a complaint with the owner whom I originally reserved a SINGLE room with. Instead I chose to write up this review for other BE WARNED travellers with pets. Thus hotel/motel is Not friendly and certainly not PET friendly I would review the state of the rooms and other amenities but as you can see it...
Read moreA few weeks ago I was driving home from the Okanagan and it was getting late so I decided to stay in Creston for one night before I continued home. A friend of mine who lives in Creston recommended that I stay at the Magnuson. So I did. They had a king room available which was perfect so I booked and stayed the night. At approximately 1130 I woke up to use the washroom as I walked to the bathroom I noticed that my floor was wet. Upon further investigation I realized that there was a leak in the roof that was dripping down between the bed and the TV. I knew the office was closed but when I phoned the fella from the front desk answer the phone. I explained to him that the roof was leaking and I wondered if I should be concerned. He expressed to me that it should be structurally sound but if I wanted to move he would try to find me a room. I asked him to get me another room and thankfully the room next door was open, although it was not a king. He just handed me the key and said he would leave a message for the people in the morning. So at 11:30 PM I was moving all my stuff into the room next to me with no help from anyone. I slept quite comfortably in my new room and headed out in the morning. Before I left I stopped in at the front desk but there was no one there to speak to so as I drove away I made a phone call and express how disappointed I was that they never offered me anything such as a discount or a room for another night because of everything I went through. The man who answered the phone said he would speak to his partner or the other manager and let me know. I left them a phone number and they had my email on file. I expressed to them that I would like to hear from them regarding what happened and what they could possibly do for me or give me some type of break as I paid full price for that room that night. I have yet to receive any call or email. It was very disappointing as it is a cute motel in a great location but I'll never stay...
Read moreWe stayed at the Magnuson going in we had low standards given the price and that it’s a motel. We arrived around 10pm and got to our room and it was meh .. ok nothing spectacular, but again we knew that going in. Husband pulled back his bed covers to find what appeared to be blood stains, along with streaky brown marks on the duvet and pillows. We called to get the bed changed out and were told we could do it our selves as there was no staff. So we got new sheets stripped the bed and re made it with our own bedding from camping. Bed #2 … appeared clean until we moved the pillows where it was covered in hair, dirt and more hair. We then remade bed #2 and proceeded to do the obligatory bed bug check. Surprisingly .. no bed bugs. But there were clumps of hair and nail clippings on the floor. Bathroom was filthy, yellow and moldy. They do allow pets, just not on the bed. Weird cause that would be the least of my worries staying there. Pros, they have a nice garden/patio area. Price seems we paid more than the going average rate for this hotel. We paid $150 as there was a $15 charge for the dog. All in all if you are absolutely desperate for a place to stay then go to the Magnuson. My recommendation is to stay clear until they figure out how to get their rooms at least someone cleaned. Staying in your car would be a better option. Fingers crossed we didn’t bring any extra bugs...
