Sad place. Sad review. Will not recommend ( as of Sep 2024)
To be fair we were not looking for a fancy place rather just somewhere to spend the night to avoid driving from Sydney to Fortress of Louisbourg in the morning. Well, mission accomplished. The historical site is only 3.6 km away from the Inn. Room was tidy, sheets / towels clean. Bed ok. Pillows ok ( would invest in better ones personally = a tad thin) Wi-Fi great. Staff prompt and efficient and almost everything worked.
BUT.
The place & rooms need major overhaul & move into 21st century. Reminded me of old motels of yore ( which alas this one still is) by the side of a random highway where you would pull up to spend the night on some random college roadtrip when you didn't quite care about quality of the stay but rather its cheapness & convinience. From incredibly dated furnishings, that yucky looking bed cover that has seen better days and oh so many people & hasn't been washed in ages, rusty hangers & broken chairs outside, cheap showerhead (haven't seen one of those in a decade at least), occasional mystery black spots on the walls, shower & base boards, lack of kettle/coffee pot, ice bucket, mini fridge, desk, enough outlets to charge up eletronics to poor paint job, joke of a breakfast ( cereal, wonder bread + weird eggish patties + coffee / orange drink which I didn't dare to try = that's it! = if that was continental breakfast I was wondering what continent & on what planet) & horrific paint color choices in the bar / restaurant / breakfast room. TV volume couldn't be adjusted or turned off/on with remote ( it only controlled channels). Had to do it old school = on TV itself :) Almost made me laugh, if it wasn't so sad.
Hate leaving bad reviews so I'll leave it at a sad review. This place could be so much better if cared for, which it clearly hasn't been for whatever reasons for a while. Again, sadly. Motels now can be done so so much better & we have stayed in some. (Not fancy but tasteful) Especially given proximity to such wonderful historic landmark as Fortress of Louisbourg that is a superb experience..
Will NOT recommend as of Sep 2024.
Hope guys can turn things around. Location definitely has potential. Just needs some TLC.
TIP: If you do decide to stay ( out of convenience most likely) don't waste your time on breakfast here = check out The Bothy at North Star during the season. Absolutely superb place. Pricier than "free" breakfast but...

Read moreI really didn't expect much from this motel based on my research, but thought it would be at least clean. The parts you cannot see online are definitely run down. The back half of this motel looks like locals live there. People sitting the doorway, looking out. The rooms on the other side look like they are full of stuff to be repaired and also construction stuff. First impression walking into my room, it looked great! Liked the flooring. It looked neat and orderly. Upon closer inspection you can tell the place is cleaned with the same cloth. There was hard dried "something?" on the back of the toilet seat. The tub was rusted around the drain and the shower curtain had mold dots on the bottom of it. When showering the temperature switched from cold to hot randomly and also lost all water pressure. Some of the towels smelled bad. TV didn't work. Yellow stain on the side of the fitted sheet and some random red spot, which I didn't notice until packing to check out. There were a few random hairs in the bed. I slept in my clothes and thankfully brought my own pillow. Did not use the blanket or pillows. While we were leaving, I spotted the cleaning lady using a rusty store shopping cart(which they obviously stole) to put the dirty linen in. Unfortunately, we had to stay based on the area, with no other options and also no refunds. Really considered sleeping in the car. I debated leaving such a negative review, but I really rely on them myself when not booking a cookie cutter hotel chain, which is not an option in this area. We were visiting the Fortress Louisbourg and thought we would save on time travelling from Sydney, and it looked like a cute little place to walk around, but it really was...
