I know this is a long review, but we LOVED this place and the incredibly friendly staff so we went twice!!! (Recommend making reservations) 9/17/2023 Dinner at Spoon Drift Restaurant Absolutely the BEST restaurant of our entire trip to Cape Breton. This place was a real treat. Even though we did not have reservations, the waitress found us a small two seater table. Service was very accommodative and imaginative. When Rita brought the wine there was no room for the bottle on the table, so she brought over a “buddy” to set the wine in. We got a real kick out of that. We tried a little of everything on the menu, scallops and mussels as separate appetizers, Caesar salad, and onion soup. Rate 5 out of 5. 8/18/2024–Dinner Dinner at Spoon Drift Restaurant We loved this place and the service so much we came back the next night (where we were set at a table for four with plenty of room for the wine bottle) and I had their crab leg special and my husband had the halibut special. The crab special was perfect and served with mussels and corn-on-the-cob on the side and a delicious garlic butter for dipping. Absolutely perfect. My husband had the halibut special and he was not disappointed. He said this was the absolute BEST halibut he has ever had at a restaurant. The halibut was served with delicious creamy mashed potatoes and vegetables cooked to perfection, not mushy. Dessert was a berry compote covered cheesecake and a chocolate layer cake, again perfect. The restaurant is clean, bright, cheerful and run by very accommodating and professional staff. What really impressed me was how well the staff work together and help each other out. This is something that we had not seen anywhere else in Cape Breton. Thank you to Rita, Sharon (Jennifer’s mom) and Jennifer for the energy and professionalism you put into this place. You are the best!

My husband and I quickly popped in for dinner, they were incredibly busy and booked up but we were so lucky that Darlene squeezed us in to a table that we could use for just over an hour. We were served by Kathy Lynn who was utterly fabulous throughout our meal, SO friendly, attentive, fun, chatty… it felt like we had known her for years! We started with a couple of Island Time Lagers, Bang Bang Shrimp and Seafood Chowder - very tasty, the shrimp were cooked perfectly and had a great marinade giving just the right kick, the chowder was rich, full of flavour and packed with big chunks of seafood. For mains I had the Special - Seafood Lasagna and my husband had the Seafood Pasta, both delicious, again with large chunks of seafood along with really tasty sauce… nice big portions too. Now, for dessert we got greedy… Darlene told us that the desserts were all homemade and they looked amazing, so we ended up having 3 to share between us; Chocolate Cake with boiled frosting, Tropical Cake with fresh cream and Pumpkin Pie - all 3 were scrumptious, packed with flavour but with the right level of sweetness and the boiled frosting was a surprise as we’ve never had it before. We would HIGHLY recommend Spoondrift to anyone visiting Louisbourg or the surrounding area! Be sure to book to avoid disappointment, and we hope to be back soon.

After spending a great day at the Fortress of Louisbourg, we decided to grab a late lunch at the Spoondrift Cafe in the town of Louisbourg. There is parking on the street or their side paking lot. The cafe is a popular place and has limited seating. The wait staff was able to seat our party of 9, even without a resevation. They were very friendly and welcoming... and patient while we decided on our dishes. I had the veggie flatbread with fresh veggies: roasted tomatoe, brocolli, mushoom. Simple and tasty! Others in our party enjoyed their dishes as well, consisting of fish n'chips, mussels, and the special - a fried haddock. The stir fry veggies weren't spicy enough for my dad, but he found the flavors to be well incorporated. The local strawberry lime cider was delish! We were too full to try their homeade baked goods... but they looked delectable! While were passing through, I'd say this is a great spot to rest and recap a wondeful day at the Fortress!
