This is a long one but worth reading if you think of camping here. My partner and I had the displeasure of deciding to stop here on a 10 hour road trip to Vancouver. Don’t get me wrong, the park itself is quite pretty (if very loud late until the night and very crowded in the day swimming area). The problem with Rolley campground is entirely on the staff and how it is run. A blonde ranger came around and made sure to answer questions of people driving by before answering our question, while we were standing waiting right in-front of her. There was more than once that she specifically told guests to do something that she said was against the rules of the park. The ranger told us to “wait 15 minutes.” to see if we could pay for the site we set up on, which had a reservation that had not shown up all day. She also told us specifically to not start packing up, about an hour into our waiting. She then had us wait another hour before kicking us out, exactly when it was too late for us to find a different campground. She suggested parking on the road outside the grounds, before finally suggesting we also ask the “nice folks” she gave the last campsite to if we could park on their site. We took the last option, and thankfully the couple was very nice, so we stayed on their site. We weren’t the first people she suggested to sleep on their site, too. There were 3 cars on that site, all with people sleeping in them. That was probably one of the worst sleeps and mornings both me and my partner has had. Not to mention how we had to pack up our site and walk it back to our car in the pitch black dark, with a bear around. And of course, both empty sites stayed empty for the rest of our time at Rolley. The campsite we joined in on was reserved for two nights, but the couple that bought it left after the first night. We were a bit confused, but when the next park ranger showed up the next day and we told her about our friends booking the site, she allowed it. She proceeded to drive past our site multiple times, smiling at us each time. Then, at 2AM she decided that was the best possible time to walk up to our tent and try to extort the incredibly overpriced $35 reservation fee from us. We paid, and we were okay with paying, but to wait until 2AM to wake us up in the middle of the night in our tent was not only weird, uncalled for, and unprofessional, but just plain rude, considering she had all day to tell us to pay. I think any normal person, by 2AM, would just leave us alone. With how expensive the sites are, and how we were treated by staff, with constantly changing rules and leniencies for some but not others, I highly recommend staying far, far away from Rolley for your camping needs. It’s simply not worth the extortive and strangely power-tripped out...
Read moreIt's a nice campground. Main bathrooms could use an upgrade. We had a double site for our family camping trip. We do not party but like to socialize around the campfire but right after 10pm we have a ranger telling us there has been complaints about us being too loud. So we basically all had to go to bed because we can't have 7 adults talking without it "traveling through the forest". Next day, at noon, i was in the site by my self and the campsite Karen next to us comes over and tells me to turn my music down. I have a tiny bluetooth speaker I said and she said it "travels through the campsites. First of all, it's 12pm, I can listen to music as there is no sound law during the day. Again later that night, got the kids to bed and we were all sitting around the campfire talking and we're told once again to be quiet. We all were whispering to each other now and that is bull @#$!. We were not drinking or partying, just talking. So basically when 10pm comes around we have to go to bed.... Again that's bull @#$!. We heard other campsites socialize and enjoying themselves but we had to be quiet. Why have a double campsite if people can't talk. It's very hard to have 7 adults talking and be super quiet. Again not yelling just some laughs and conversation. So now unfortunately we will never return to this campground. I won't pay the money we paid to have to go...
Read moreDecember 30 2023 - if you're planning winter camping, this place is open all year around, and offers walk-in camping spots. Just arrive, choose a spot and the ranger would check you in. Plan to bring money as they don't accept cards. During winter there's no tap water, so plan to bring your water, there's no hot showers or flushable toilets that are closed and locked. Bring your toilet paper and plan to use the pit toilets. There's a number that you can call if you need firewood, so the ranger would bring it to you and again, plan to pay with paper money.
It was raining this weekend so the temperatures didn't fall less than 8 or 9 Celsius even during the night. The campsite occupation was I'd say 30 or 40% .. they have around 60 spots anyways so if you're planning a winter camping, this is a nice and close by place to go. The closest cornerstore is probably 10 min away, and there are farms selling firewood close to the camping entry road as well for 10 bucks. There's a waterfall 10 min hike away, and make sure to keep your left on the trail as there's another hike downwards. The beach has sand, and there's a day use area ( quite limited I'd say ) so it may become crowded on sunny days. I hope these tips can help you as they...
