I'll start by saying that I have stayed at Elkhorn Resort several times in the past with family and have had good experiences. This past week my partner and I stayed at the resort for a short weekend trip. We are both very easy-going people who rarely let things bother us.
I have never tried the Solstice Spa in the past, due to lack of opportunity during my stays. My partner booked a 60-minute massage for each of us (separate). Our massages were approximately 15 to 30 minutes late after we showed up to our scheduled appointment times that were confirmed on the phone when we booked.
We both completed pre-screening questionnaires prior to meeting our RMT to receive our treatment. On the questionnaire, we indicated that our problem areas were related from our waist up. Instead, the RMT started on our feet and legs. This was fine with both of us however the issue was due to the lack of time management, our massages were not complete. The RMT did not complete any of the problem areas on the front side of my body that I indicated, and my partner received only ½ (left side) of his back completed. Not only were the massages incomplete, the constant pauses and lack of attention to the task at hand resulted in a very poor massage.
Prior to starting, I asked for the clock to be removed from the room as it was ticking loudly, and the sound prevented me from relaxing completely. My RMT kindly agreed and stated they would be using their phone for a timer instead. Unfortunately, they did not feel it was necessary to mute their notifications and instead let their phone ring the entire appointment due to receiving phone calls and messages.
During the massage, there were multiple uncomfortable comments made by the RMT in both of our sessions. The conversations were very unprofessional as the RMT spoke with vulgar language and profanity. Furthermore, the RMT made derogatory comments related to my profession, mental health and asked multiple inappropriate questions related to my race (minority). They also made awkward jokes towards my partner insinuating intimate actions.
After our sessions were complete, I brought up our concerns about the quality of the massage and our negative experience to the reception at the spa. They offered to remove the automatic 15% gratuity, however it seemed to be brushed off. We felt it was important to raise our concerns to the hotel management so that a similar experience does not happen to other customers. The resort is supposed to provide a high-quality experience (reflected in the cost) however this was one of our worst massages for the both of us. Hotel management stated that we would be receiving a call from the Spa Manager within 1-2 days however this never occurred.
Unfortunately, our weekend getaway was tainted by this spa experience and the lack of accountability from the resort. I am still feeling disappointed As of right now, I would not recommend this spa to any...
Read moreMy husband and I have been staying at Elkhorn since Sunday, July 18th, for our honeymoon. The stay, overall, was very pleasant. The staff at the Solstice spa were always very sweet, helpful, and accommodating, as were the staff at the Buffalo Bar. I would also like to note that the food available at the buffalo bar was delicious.
We did have one small hiccup during our stay, however. On Sunday, we were given the following form informing us that the resort would not be providing daily housekeeping services and that, "If you would like to have your linens refreshed or to replace any room amenities, please contact the front desk (dial 0 or come in person)." This worked fine on the Monday and Tuesday following our stay, we had our towels changed out and garbages cleaned with no issues.
However, on the Thursday and Friday following our stay, we were told by a staff member that they were not servicing rooms and that we would not be able to have our garbages or towels changed. This led to confusion on our part for obvious reasons. I would like to note that the staffmember who we spoke to was not rude to us, in fact she (I think her name was "Marla") was very helpful with us when we were renting our ebikes, just in this particular situation we were at a loss as to what to do. She offered to leave a note with the cleaning staff the next day with regards to changing our towels and garbages, noting that we would be away most of the afternoon on Friday, so we would not be in the way (for social distancing reasons).
Much to our dismay, we still had dirty towels and full garbages on the next day. My husband, frustrated, then called the front desk to ask to have our towels and garbages changed and, once again, was told by that same staffmember that rooms were not being serviced due to covid. Surely, you can understand our frustration given that it wasn't an issue up until Thursday.
I emailed the manager, Chris Phillips, with regards to this matter, stating that we felt that it would be a good idea for them to revise the handout given to customers so that this same confusion does not occur in the future. Additionally, I recommended that they do better to keep the staff all on the same page so that such miscommunication does not cause issues with other guests in the future.
Much to my pleasant surprise, I received a reply the next day from Chris apologizing for our issues on Thursday/Friday and that the treatment we'd received on Tuesday and Wednesday was exactly what was supposed to occur. He also offered to send us an apology gift for the confusion.
I was very impressed and thankful for the manager's swift response to...
Read moreSpent 4 days in a 2 Bedroom Duplex, 1100 Sqft. Mid-June on a Monday to Thursday, so it wasn't busy.
Chalet: Just like online photos. Spacious and well stocked for longterm stays. Only thing missing from inventory list was cream and sugar. Lots of linens. Housekeeping is upon request. Worst issue was the TV in chalet 633A. There were multiple issues. The remote needed to be held up in the air to clear the ledge it was on, and very close as it wouldn't transmit more than a few feet. Remote did not work to access Netflix/Disney/etc. Cable was slow to load, and half the channels weren't displaying on the Guide. TV itself was far too high on a shelf. It would be great if the chalets had robes, slippers and pen/paper. Everything else is in good shape, except the bar chairs, which have screws missing and were wobbly. In-room jacuzzi worked great, and body/hair wash provided doubled as great bubble bath. Fireplace burned clean and well. Check your receipt, they charged me for 4 "complimentary" fireplace logs, when we were only given 3. If mobility is an issue, be sure you book a chalet close to the main building. Some are quite far away. If I were to stay again, I'd rent a chalet that is not attached to another. There is minimal sound-resistance. Noise from the shared lobby is heard loudly all throughout the chalet. Lobby floors are not carpeted, suite doors are not sealed well, and suite and exterior door make loud noises if not manually closed slowly.
Buffalo Bills Restaurant: Good food, decent service, Prices to be expected. No room service. There is only 1 restaurant on-site, despite what maps show.
Elkhorn Spa: Massage rooms are quite bright and chilly. Not a very peaceful environment. It was very unclear where we wait for massages, or what we should do. When massage was finished, therapist just abruptly stopped, washed her hands, and announced it was over.
Klar So Nordic Spa: Nice and new. Really unfortunate the buildings aren't labeled, you just have to keep looking in them to fine out (and bothering people inside while doing so). Would be nice if people were firmly told beforehand not to leave their towels on chairs to save them, there's ample hooks. Nordic restauant was good, but of course not cheap. Unsure why fireplace wasn't on. Staff were a bit pretentious. If you want peace, ensure you wait to book until after exterior...
