Our trip to Isaiah Tubbs started on a bit of a sour note. Thanks to a review from May on this website, we learned that we wouldn’t have safe drinking water at the resort. It turns out that one of the wells used on property has high nitrate levels, which is dangerous for pregnant women and young kids and our multi-family group was travelling with young kids (plus I wasn’t keen to be drinking high levels of nitrates over multiple days).||Had the resort been upfront about this when we booked, or during one of the multiple phone calls our group made, my attitude would have been a little different (it’s not unusual to have to bring water to a cottage, after all). Instead, we had to find out from a Trip Advisor review. The resort didn’t even tell us when we checked in, though there are government-issued notices in all the impacted rooms, above the sink, so it’s an issue we’re supposed to know about. Honestly, this whole aspect came off as a bit sneaky and I was worried about what other “surprises” awaited us. ||Our group was spread out across one of the beach houses, one of the lodges and in one of the cottages. This last selection was quite rustic and didn’t offer much in terms of privacy (it also didn’t have A/C) but the occupants were prepared for all that and said that they quite liked their standalone cottage, which came with a well-equipped kitchen and a fire pit.||The lodge rooms were more updated and depending on the style, came with a private bedroom or a kitchen (and they all had A/C). From what we saw, these rooms looked pretty nice and the screened porch was a useful touch. ||We stayed in one of the beach houses. We liked that it was quiet and had two stories, with plenty of space. We were in beach house #2, which I think is more intended for a romantic getaway, as there is no private bedroom but there is a fireplace and a jacuzzi. But thanks to the inclusion of a pullout couch, it worked fine for a family of four. The jacuzzi actually turned out to be quite useful for warming up cold kids and washing off sandy feet.||The room was a little banged and was a mix of newer and dated elements. But it was clean and overall, it worked.||As the name suggests, this room was located right on the beach however, that end of the beach is a little rocky. The better section of the beach is located in front of beach house #1 and over by lodge #2. However, don’t expect the beautiful sand of Sandbanks Provincial Park at any point here. It’s just overall rougher (and that’s even after the resort grooms the beach).||But, unlike Sandbanks, the beach here is quiet and comes equipped with beach chairs, which we had no problems securing. The water was also fairly calm, clean and kid-friendly. And if you do want to go to Sandbanks, it’s a quick drive down the road.||Besides the undrinkable water, our biggest problem with this place was the restaurant. It was very unstaffed and getting served took far longer than we were anticipating. We ate one long meal there and then didn’t go back. The food quality also didn’t wow us, especially considering the cost. If you stay here, I recommend not depending on the restaurant as your main source of food. Instead, head up the road to the Tambo Store for cheaper, quicker (though much more casual) fare or head over to Up In Smoke Pizza for delicious (and fast) wood-fired pizza.||Overall, we liked the location, the variety of accommodation types and the lake and again, the non-drinkable water wouldn’t have been that big of a deal if the resort had been open about it from the start. I don’t know if we’ll be back but given the lack of kid-friendly, group-friendly, beach-front destinations in this area, we might be! Especially since the pool is...
Read moreWe stayed here for one night with a group of 40 or so people, we booked very early, back in April hoping to we would get a good room with an early commitment. As it turns out, we were stuffed into the "annex" which is the furthest point from the lake and restaurant with a nice view of the dusty parking lot and mosquito farm. One of the other folks booked last week and got a room on the water, so failure on the booking team for recognizing that.
This place might have been great back in the late 80s or early 90s, but the time has come to bring in the heavy equipment or start renting it out to the film industry as a location for another walking dead series or another remake of the hills have eyes. I think the maintenance man was fired a long, long time ago. The locals advise the place is up for sale for 22 sheets, so there is no motivation to drop a dime on this place, so expect no improvements in the future. This actually might be the worst kept property I have ever stayed on, and I log around 140 nights/year in a hotel.
Check in was easy, which basically was logging a $350 security deposit, not sure what a mid-50s couple was planning to do here, maybe steal the 22" RCA TV? So, you get 1 star for that.........
The water in the room (I assume) is well water, which is fine, however I have to shower the moment I go home to get the stank off me, I award you nothing for the room.
We paid 40 bucks (EACH) for a catered lunch, which had a value of no more than 18-22 bucks on the high end, it was quite bad, so bad in fact that many people tried to get a refund for the pre-paid breakfast voucher they bought at check-in not wanting to risk another culinary disaster. No points awarded for amenities.
On our way to the "Sand & Pearl" for dinner, we caught a glimpse of the sunset through the trees, which looked lovely, but the 15 mins walk to the beach from that dump they had us staying in would have made us late for dinner, so........I would award 1/2 point for the location if I could, but I can't, so I will do 1.
Risk staying here if you get a great deal, you have been warned, we will never go back, hopefully an owner buys it and spends some money as it could be great!
If history repeats itself, the management will "thank" me for my review, apologize for the experience we had and advise me that our concerns will be reviewed and nothing more will happen, and the 2 ratings...
Read moreIf you want to plan a wedding at this venue, YOU NEED TO READ THIS!!!!!! My son and his fiancé planned a wedding there for August 2020. With the pandemic, they talked to friends and family, the venue (isaiah tubbs Resort and Conference Centre), the DJ, wedding photographer/videographer etc, to postpone the event until Aug 2021. Everyone was will to help them out, except isaiah tubbs. The venue told them to "wait and see", but did tentatively book the 28th of 2021 (my son's fiancé has the emails to prove it). When my son contacted them again, the venue said, Look how well Australia is doing. Let’s wait and see, but you still have Aug 28th 2021 tentatively booked. Again, my son had the email as proof of the save date. But seriously? You want us to see how Australia is doing? They are on the other side of the planet! Who about, look at our neighbours to the south and how poorly they are doing! The U.S. can DIRECTLY affect us, not Australia!!! After stating three times in email that the 28th of August 2021 is tentatively booked for them, now they are saying that they made a mistake and gave away the 28th of August 2021 and to pick another date! After that, the venue has now said, no, you can't postpone until next year, you MUST get married this year. The original contract stated that they must have at least 100 people, but with the pandemic they are now only allowed 50 people. Now which 50 people to you tell that they can't attend the wedding? The venue has been completely unwilling to help, changing their story time and time again, holding my son and his fiancé hostage. The venue is very nice, hence the one star. As for the people running the venue, they don't care about the people, just the money. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE THE HAPPIEST DAY OF THEIR YOUNG LIVES AND THIS PLACE IS COMPLETELY RUINING THIS FOR THEM! ISAIAH TUBBS, YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELVES!!!!! If you do book here, you better hope that you don't have to change the date, even if it's because of a pandemic as you will be screwed over. BEWARE!!!!!
UPDATE: Parts of Australia are back into lockdown. Yeah... "look how well Australia is doing". ...
