Okay, even though I didn't actually pitch my tent there, I recently took a walk around Fairy Island Campground, and let me tell you, this place absolutely deserves a five-star review. It looks like a truly wonderful place to camp!
What immediately struck me was how much it felt like a complete escape. You honestly wouldn't be able to tell that you're on an island in the middle of the city. It gives you the full-on nature effect, which is incredible for how accessible it is.
The campground itself looks fantastic. There were plenty of spaces available when I was there, and it seemed like campers were mostly concentrated on the south end, which tells me the rest of the island offers even more solitude. The sites themselves appear very spacious and private, giving you that true wilderness feel without being miles from amenities. And the sound of the raging river beside it just adds to that immersive natural ambiance.
If you're looking for a camping spot that combines convenience with a genuine, wild feel, Fairy Island looks like the absolute...
Read moreWe stayed at this camp ground for 4 days ... we wanted a power site and got one! The sites vary in their levels of privacy, we had a fairly private one. The site was clean, which is not always the case with municipal camp grounds. ||The bathrooms/showers were fairly clean, but the outhouses- well, they're your typical outhouses. ||The walking paths were very well maintained and walking along looking for the carved fairies was a lot of fun! ||On the second night my husband was speaking with the caretakers and they said the fire band had been lifted and sold us 2 bundles of wood ... the only catch on this is we found out the following day from the highway marquis that the fire ban was STILL in effect. Needless to say we only had one fire, the previous evening. ||The one really bothersome event was the people in the site directly across from us, they partied and drank until the wee hours and to our knowledge the caretakers did nothing. ||Would we stay here again...
Read moreWorst camping experience ever. Pit toilets so full they stunk up the entire area, couldn't stand to use them. Campground hosts (paid contractors) kids (underage) and friends flying around in golf carts all over the place like race car drivers. Also the hosts kid and friends going place to place being rude.obnoxious and bullying other campers children. City owned campsite, one would expect higher standards from their operators. I had a personal conversation with the Male campground operator. Absolutely the most insincere, rude and inconsiderate person I've ever encountered. FYI the operator says talk to the city if you have an issue, the city says talk to the contractor.. classic Terrace, no one takes responsibility. Hopefully for 2023 the city will not re-instate these guys and someone with the proper skills and staff will take the contract. For what these guys have created as "smelly island". Pay good money to camp in the stench of this contractors...
