Do yourself a favor, do not stay here! While the place is nice enough, the owner is miserable! It's a long story and the owner has already told me that if I leave a bad review she'll just come back and defend it, and I hope she does because it will show her true colors. In short, we were in the area with a bigger group so had to find accommodation for us in a few different places as we all didn't fit in one house. I booked everything under my name to match the credit card payment and when we got there we all divided ourselves between the Airbnb's. This one had room for 5 and so 4 stayed here (2 adults and 2 children). One evening a few others from our group went there for a couple hours to hang out and got quite loud. (They didn't realize they had a suite under them and no one knocked on their door to say anything) The next day we got kicked out! The owner (I think her name is Bobby) said that it was false booking because it was registered under my name but I wasn't physically staying there! I have no idea why that matters, it was still our group and I paid with my credit card...it also never said anywhere that I needed to register the names of all occupants or that no one extra could come over! She then proceeded to take money off my card without any communication for the 2 children who also stayed there. When I told her that's CC fraud she said I didn't communicate that 2 children were staying there so she took the money. (And didn't let me know) Very untrustworthy... (I booked with Expedia and it said children can stay for free!) I screenshot the blurb that they were free according to the third party that I booked with, and she had all the excuses and wouldn't refund any money at all!! Now it looks like she edited the listing to back her story but thankfully I have the screenshots. Shady stuff... Apparently we 'violated the policies' but no one sent us any policies at all.. it wasn't listed on Expedia either so how is one to know that not a single other person is allowed on the property. Nothing about this makes sense. I'm left wondering if this was a easy money grab but other than the noise complaint, she could have been much more reasonable. The hosts were on holidays too so maybe this was an easy way out? So definitely don't deal with her, there are tons of great places to stay in the area. We have been here many times and haven't had a single problem! Expedia is willing to compensate us but the owner refuses and it's not fair to Expedia to reimburse as it's not their fault. We are reaching out to the legal team of Expedia to see what consequences can be done but just take my advise to...

Read moreSituated in a quiet neighbourhood the Black Bear Guesthouse was a fabulous stay! The house backs on to a bay, where at our first glance we saw it a low tide and then in the morning the next day the bay was full during high tide with beautiful tree and snow top mountains - picture perfect. Our room - the Cedar Room - was the perfect size for just the two of us. Right in the door there was a coffee and tea option, and a small fridge (we stopped in Port Alberni to get groceries prior to coming, Ucluelet also has a grocery store), no breakfast on site but that option was a short drive away. The room had charming artistic touches, books on BC, a couple chocolates YUMM! and some great smelling organic shampoo, conditioner, and body wash. Also, rain rain rain happens ever(y) so often, there were rain jackets and boots for us to wear if we needed them - loved this! The house was a convenient walk to Chesterman beach and about a 5 minute drive to town where there were plenty of shops, restaurants (we went to Shelter and Schooners and both were FANTASTIC), and things to do. As a suggestion by Bobbi we tried out the Remote Passages hot spring tour. This was also great - we saw whales, seals, sea lions, and of course got to enjoy the natural hot hot water at the Springs - this was an all day event (10:30-5:30pm) - our tour guide was fantastic. Overall a fantastic stay and we highly recommend to anyone...
