First the good: The view from the hotel is absolutely gorgeous and the big, grassy backyard and cliffs just beckon you to stroll out and stare at the water and the dozens of birds, big and small, songbirds, sea birds, vultures and more. It was breathtaking. The rooms were very basic, but clean and cute. Hot water in the showers. Lots of cozy corners around the hostel for sitting - inside and out. Lots of quaint, rustic decoration. The staff (when I could find them) were all smiles (but since they didn't speak English and I can't speak Spanish, all the conversations were smiles and hand gestures). The price was very, very inexpensive. Now the less good (not "bad", but less good). The Wifi was very spotty - not always dependable. Several times I couldn't find any staff, and once even got locked out of the hotel until I found a side door that was open. The breakfasts consisted of very little actual food, even though the tables were set nicely (coffee, thin juice, a roll, jam, maybe a scrambled egg, maybe some cereal - it changes a bit every day). Overall, I'd recommend it because its such a cute place, and clean and inexpensive - just be forewarned not to expect much by way of service or food or internet (unless they get...
Read moreWe stayed at this hotel for 2 nights while on Chiloe Island. It's nice view is because it is on a hill above Ancud. You need to walk or drive somewhere for lunch and dinner as the restaurant is only open for breakfast to independent travelers. During our stay there, 3 tour buses arrived. One, full of young men, was there for lunch and the afternoon. The other two spent the night and were there for dinner and breakfast. While the buses were away during the day, they disgorged their passengers at night and the result was a lot of noise. Service at breakfast was adequate but it was difficult to find anyone at reception and we hesitated to leave our room key in case there was nobody around when we returned. Our room was very nice with a view of the Pacific Ocean but it was near the stairs and the constant foot traffic on the wood...
Read moreWhat an amazing position for peace and tranquillity situated on a cliff. Such spectacular sea views of about 180 degrees, I spent hours just watching the sea birds, the ocean, the fishing boats. Gruesa beach is just a short walk away and the walk into town is only 15 minutes. Staff are friendly and helpful. Sure they don't speak English but then again in my country not everyone speaks Spanish. Breakfast is good, juice/coffee/fruit/cereal or egg/rolls with cheese or ham which differs daily. There is a basic menu of sandwiches and hamburgers if you want something light for lunch or dinner. I have been here for 9 days and am going to miss it. Well recommended if you want a nice clean inexpensive place...
