I loved it here. Gabi and Julio are great hosts and we chatted as well as possible with my basic Spanish and Gaby's basic (but much better) English. They made me feel at home and it's more of a homestay than a hostel. ||||The room was basic but clean and comfortable. There's coffee and cakes available at all times and it doesn't feel awkward if you sit at the table in the lounge or join them to watch tv. ||||The breakfast is a very good continental one with fresh bread, and there's often something new. Gabi is a fantastic cook, and if you book in advance, you can get a wonderful three-course lunch and/or dinner for a very reasonable price. (Particularly on a Sunday where I'm pretty sure nowhere is open) Amazing centolla!||||The location is just at the bottom of the trail to Cerro Bandera, near the museum, and there are various other trails that I headed down. They have four dogs that love exploring too if you want them to join you. The morning we went to Cerro Bandera we were accompanied by two of the dogs, who joined us, running ahead of us in and out of the woods. They were actually quite useful in find the path when we lost it in the snow. We met a couple also staying with Gabi and Julio coming down the mountain and they were accompanied by the other dogs, which was quite amusing. They also own horses that occasionally appear at the front of the yard to eat. (If you don't like dogs, you don't have to take them, and they're not allowed in the main part of the house).||||Gabi was very helpful in arranging excursions, and told us about the free ferry to Puerto Navarino, and in booking my onward transport. ||||The wifi was very good. If I went back I would stay...
Read moreOur stay at Akainij was excellent in all aspects. Don Julio and Gaby were friendly and helpful hosts. The location was good and the environs interesting.||The service was everything we could have hoped (for except we couldn't make contact by phone and had to rely on email). Fortunately that proved efficient time wise and we were able to use it after being delayed for a day by late arrival of our ship. We were not penalised and did not have to pay for missing the day. Don Julio picked us up when we were late, and shuttled us the Dientes de Navarino track etc. We were able to use their kitchen to make a light meal. ||The room was comfortable and shower etc very good. Other amenities were entirely...

This Little 2000 people village would not be worth the detour, if there was not this Wonderful homestay Hostal Akainij! Julio, the friendly host, picked us up at the Airport, and his lovely wife and daughter are helping by baking the best cakes! Staff is also very friendly and her son was a friend to our son who normally played more with dogs and cats because of the lacking of schoolchildren during our travels in South America. Hostal Akainij has several nice dogs to pet! The sitting area upstairs is amazing with thei big Windows, Beagle canal...
