While Rapa Nui is undoubtedly a beautiful and unique destination, my stay at this hotel fell short of expectations — especially considering the high price point for five nights. Despite kind gestures from the staff, such as offering me dinner after reporting issues, the overall experience does not justify the cost.
One major issue is the misleading information on Booking.com, where the hotel is listed as offering lunch and dinner at an additional cost. In reality, these meals are only occasionally available. I mentioned this discrepancy to the front desk staff, who acknowledged it and kindly promised to correct the listing — but it should never have been inaccurate in the first place. I was invited to dinner one evening — and while it was of excellent quality, this doesn’t compensate for the structural and service shortcomings.
Both rooms I stayed in had malfunctioning air conditioning units, poorly installed and extremely noisy. I didn’t request a room change — it was offered — but the second unit had the same issues. A fan was eventually provided after I asked, but it should have been offered proactively.
Soundproofing is a serious problem. From my ground floor room, I could hear every footstep and piece of furniture being moved in the room above. Additionally, the hotel is located near a road, and while it’s quieter at night, you can hear passing cars during the day — something to consider if you’re sensitive to noise.
That said, breakfast was a true highlight. Everything is homemade, from the bread to the pastries, and the eggs were fresh and well prepared. The coffee could be improved, but overall, breakfast was excellent. The dinner I was offered was also of high quality, which only makes it more disappointing that meals are not offered more consistently.
The hotel is quite isolated, with no nearby shops or restaurants. Airport transfer is included, but I was initially told I would be dropped off three hours before my flight — which is unnecessary for such a small airport. The reason, it turns out, was to consolidate guest transport and avoid multiple trips — another example of guest service taking a back seat to operational convenience.
While construction on Rapa Nui can be challenging due to limited access to materials, this does not justify the poor construction quality of the hotel — particularly the lack of insulation and basic architectural care.
One bright spot in my experience was the kindness of the front desk staff. They were consistently friendly, responsive, and eager to help. Unfortunately, they are left trying to compensate — with great effort — for the structural deficiencies of the property.
In short, while the food and some elements of service stand out, the overall experience does not offer good value for money. For a hotel in this price range, guests should be able to expect comfort, reliability, and attention to detail — not just nice touches...

Read moreThe Ohana is a gorgeous boutique hotel with only 8 rooms. It is situated around a really beautiful pool area with loungers and very well planted and immaculately maintained gardens. Pablo mentioned that they have their own mango trees, not in season when we were there. ||We were picked up at the airport and greeted in the hotel with some fresh mango juice. ||The rooms are spacious and over look the pool and garden area. They have a large walk in shower and everything is spotless, modern and operational. There is a functional air conditioning unit. However the hairdryer was like a child’s toy, so if you need a bit of serious drying/styling bring your own. The bed linen was a soft, crisp cotton with duvet if required. ||Breakfast is buffet style with your choice of eggs cooked to order. They served delicious fresh pineapple juice o local “wild” cherry, a new one on me. I had to try it of course. Other offerings included cold meats, cheese, fresh pineapple and orange. As well as home made cakes, viennoiserie and toast with lots of local fruit jams and spreads. Coffee was in a hot flask with tea available. The addition of a “Nespresso” style machine would really make a big difference if you are a coffee lover. ||The staff go out of their way to be helpful and are always so kind and helpful. On our first day we couldn’t get a taxi to take us to the waterfront so Pablo very kindly gave us a ride. There are 2 banks in Hanga Roa always handy to have cash for taxis or if the local internet connection goes down you can’t use credit cards (this can be for 4 or 5 hours at a time) and very common. The only drawback for the hotel is its location, a good 30 to 40 minute walk from the water front and associated restaurants. We a time times struggled to get a taxi (What’s App down) or simply no drivers available. The owner of the restaurant on the sunset beach very kindly had to give us a lift back after a meal. To improve service for guests a staff member/driver would really make a positive impact for guests as there was no evening meal service. ||Overall a beautiful hotel and great staff, but do think about taxis/walk when you go out in...
