Stay from July 23-26, 2023. Our stay at Planeta Atacama was incredible. Before our arrival, Franklin (host) contacted us to confirm our arrival time to coordinate details and navigation details. Upon arrival we were greeted with a custom sign which provided us our room and wi-fi details. Franklin waited for us to arrive and was kind to allow us to complete the checkin process the next day, as we were hungry and tired from a full day of travel.
The next morning we completed the check-in process and had a chance to meet Carla, Franklin’s partner and Chef who cooked us up a delicious breakfast - and tasty strong percolator coffee! The lodge is located in a magical part of the desert, and the breakfast area faces North to volcano Licancabur and the border to Bolivia. The overall architecture is beautiful - adobe and ‘brea’ - utilizing local materials and very well crafted rooms and spaces. Our hotel room had a loft bed, and plenty of room for storage. The bed was super cozy and warm and the window was a seamless view North.
The location is about 5 minutes from town center, 10min. From Valle de la Luna, 40 min. From Puritama.
Overall we would recommend this lodge for those looking to stay on the outskirts of the town. We met incredible people - Carla, Franklin, their kids, Oreo (dog) and Mery. All were very helpful in our planning and experience in San Pedro de Atacama. As a personal treat we had a chance to speak to the architect, Juan Soto, and shared our gratitude for the beautiful designed space.
We are grateful to have made friends and stay at such a...

At night, the silence is almost sacred, and the stars above are some of the clearest and most beautiful in the world.
Franklin, the host, is a true gem — like having your own private travel agency at home. He provides personalized tips and suggestions to help you make the most of your time in the area, and does so with the greatest kindness and charm.

Read moreWhat a stunning place Planeta is. Only just outside San Pedro but it feels like you've left the town and gone to a far away reserve.
How can you beat waking up in a large comfy bed, opening the blinds and seeing Licancabur volcano and the Andes as your view. Then having a lovely breakfast on the terrace looking at that same view.
The only thing that beats that is the service. The owner, Juan, who has lived there for 30 years was relaxed and delightful when we arrived. Franklin, the manager, welcomed us like old friends and was interested in everything about our stay, plans and how he could help with warmth and genuine affection.
It's hard to think of how you could criticise Planeta, especially for the price. Even the parking was excellent. If you're thinking about...
