We booked this hotel to enjoy the views and have some quiet time, as you can see from the pictures it seems like a great location for it. Unfortunately, they do not show that the hotel has two parts and one part has the structure of a highway motel. Highlights of my experience:||-The room they gave us was right next to the parking lot, so everyone outside could see right into our room. It would have been impossible to relax in privacy. We were there for less than 30 minutes and about 20 people walked by and looked in; not because they were pervs or anything but you cannot help but look in a window when it’s a couple of feet away from you. ||- The staff was rude and had a “you-should-be-grateful-you-get-to-spend-your-money-in-our hotel” kind of attitude. We asked if they could change us to another room (we were going to stay there for five days) and said that they could check the following day but could not guarantee anything. However, they said we could have our money back if that's what we wanted. We decided to book another hotel; if it had been just one night we could have dealt with it but to spend five days there, with high prices and rude staff was too much. ||-We go online and find another hotel and book a room there. When we go to the lobby with our luggage to get our money back, they grumpily told us that they did have another room and we could have it if that’s what we wanted. I wondered before if they were just being difficult as it was low season and the hotel seemed almost empty. Thankfully, the staff confirmed this and I was able to leave without doubting that I made the right decision. ||-We did get our funds back to the credit card without problems.||||Other issues I was able to notice during my brief stay: ||-Beds are tinny. Not very comfortable for couples or tall people. ||-Rooms are very basic. We wanted a room to relax in, get some reading, etc. This room did not have any other furniture other than the bed and a couple of night stands. ||-The hotel is isolated and far from downtown. ||-The hotel grounds are beautiful; the river provides a great view but the hotel itself is not in a very nice part of town. ||-The common areas where nice and looked comfy. ||||My recommendation is to just go to another hotel. This one is overpriced. While it has beautiful grounds, there are hotels in better parts of town with larger gardens and access to the river that are cheaper...
Read moreSo this hotel... my husband and I are in our late 20s and have traveled a lot staying in cheap hostels, Airbnb’s, BnB’s and hotels. We’ve been staying with family in Chile and we’re excited for a night to ourselves at a mid-priced beautiful hotel. We read fantastic reviews and when we walked in the lobby it’s beautiful! It’s a bit out of town but we have a car so we didn’t mind the extra peace. But let’s get started with the review- The staff was friendly but seemed confused when we asked if it was better to pay with our American credit card or Chilean debit card... I mean we are an American/ Chilean couple trying to avoid fees so maybe that’s not normal, but they swiped the card with no answer to our question... we were asking for advice but we felt taken advantage of. ||As someone else mentioned there is no way to know if you are staying in the nice side of the hotel or the ugly motel side. This is total false advertising! In the States this $110 Hotel should have been a $50 Wyoming motel as the beds had noo support or springs... sorry we probably forever scarred the neighbors with our noise haha the furniture was so bare we wouldn’t even consider it for our simple apartment. No fridge, no amnesties, outdated tv, everything low to the ground, no artwork and scratchy towels. I’ve stayed in hole in the wall places but this was a joke.||To be honest the river view was beautiful, we got great complimentary pisco sours when we checked in, standard complimentary breakfast, easy parking and a huge disappointment with the room. There is no way we would stay here more than one night or ever recommend it to...
Read moreHotel Naguilan felt like something from an old movie. It has quite an old-fashioned feel to it, from the design and furniture in the room to the lobby and dining room. It's not new, but it was well-built, and everything worked well. There was no air-conditioning in the room (I don't think you need it in Valdivia), but there was central heating, which made the room very cozy, even too warm for my husband. It was around 12-18 degrees C while were there, so I really appreciated the warmth :-)||||We stayed in the building across from the building with reception and the dining room, on the ground floor overlooking the river. It was super peaceful, and it was great to be able to watch the birds in the bushes across the river from our porch. The only complaint I'd have is that there was no secure way to leave the balcony door open at night. ||||Everyone was polite enough to us, both at reception and at the restaurant where we had our welcome drinks. The food was a bit hit and miss, but we only ate there once, I think. Breakfast was fair, with a limited selection of items, and the bread was stale every day - it seems to be a thing in Chile. The scrambled eggs were excellent, though, and overall it was just fine. ||||It's quite far from town, maybe a half hour walk, but you can also take the local bus for not much money at all. We stayed there because it was close to the university campus where my husband was attending a conference. There aren't many, or any, restaurants close by, but plenty of excellent...
