Clean rooms and good quality of buffet breakfast. There are more members of staff who don't speak english at all, but there are some really helpful staff members. The hotel is a little bit far from the nearest metro station, around 10-15 minutes walk.

This place is a total shambles. And like 99% of Beijing, they don't speak English either...||My family and I stayed here for 9 nights, a long stay compared to most, so we wanted a relaxing experience. |I'll start with the criticisms and why it deserves a 0 rating;||We entered the hotel at approximately 9pm after a horrendous journey from Hong Kong (bare in mind we have a toddler with us which can make things slightly more difficult). ||We were greeted by the hotel staff who hardly spoke any English at all. You're staying at an international hotel chain in one of the biggest capitals of the world... they weren't fussed. |Anyway, after short delays we were taken to our room which had an unpleasant smoke smell. Clearly a staff member was smoking inside this room not long ago? We didn't even bother moving our luggage inside and contacted reception straight away. It took us over 20 mins to explain (with hands and feet) why this room was not acceptable! We were given a new room and they gave us an upgrade which was nice of them. ||Problems continued that night...Our new room then had an issue with its flushing system. An 'engineer' had to come up and fix it. After a long day we needed sleep... only to be woken up (at 4am) with the smell of cigarettes again! Clearly the whole AC/ ventilation system is connected and somewhere at the bottom are a bunch of idiots smoking away? Not sure what the issue was but my 1 year old literally wouldn't stop Coughing all morning! Something had to be done! ||The following morning we spoke to the manager in charge at that time; Mark. He was pleasant and tried understanding our position. Had he understood more English it probably wouldn't have taken 1-2 hours to sort out the issue. In the end he decided to change our room and upgrade us to the executive suits. This was a kind gesture and stopped us from leaving the hotel that day. ||Other criticisms;|• china doesn't allow usage of google, YouTube and other big sites/ platforms. Although this has nothing to do with the hotel, it fuelled our aggravation! |• internet was generally slow at times, better on 16th floor however |• room service is a shambles. Food took over an hour and it was wrong anyway. Burger and wedges are the easiest things to make. They couldn't even get those right! Still charged us for it even though we didn't eat it! |• most bathrooms were mouldy and water was rising in our 2nd room shower... it was like having a shower but then your feet is submerged in dirty water also... |• no English anywhere!|• when rooms were "cleaned" every morning half the items would not be replaced. Ie: spoons, towels etc etc |You would even have to tell them to change sheets also, as they do not do this. Hotels are meant to change bed linens etc everyday! |• Lauren kid at concierge was always more concerned about his phone rather than customers. He even rudely answered his phone (personal call) while I was speaking to him! |• rooms standards are okay for another 6-12 months but general bathrooms needs updating asap. ||The only reasons I've given this hotel a 2* is based on the following;||• Manager Mark gave good service and upgraded us without making a fuss. I think he genuinely understood our position even though the language barrier was there. |• Mandy at front desk very helpful and polite|• Ricky the kid at concierge was always smiling and helpful with his translator app|• breakfast was decent every morning|• Frida was nice and even gave my daughter free rice once|• the two Nepalese staff were great. Always smiling and attentive. Helpful and even spoke decent English compared to the rest!|• Amy, Cheri and Vivi at the executive lounge upstairs were helpful. Always happy to help heat up our daughters food. ||Those names above could improve this hotel vastly with some tweak here and there...|||Overall I would not stay here again and will stay away from Holiday Inn altogether.. they need a change of management at the...
