Before we booked we called ahead and asked the hotel if the pool and gym would be open during the dates we were planning to visit as it was during the CNY period. When we arrived we were informed that everything was closed, the pool, the gym, the main restaurants etc. This is not what we expected to hear having called before we booked. There was no attempt from the staff to help rectify this in anyway e.g other hotels have at least upgraded the room and included a dinner for free. Nothing for us. We tried to communicate with the front desk staff that this wasn’t okay as we had spoken to someone before booking who reassured us everything was open. Our original stay was for four nights, we were informed that on our day of departure, that was when the pool and gym would reopen. We decided to book an extra two nights just to get use of the facilities and when we asked if we were going to receive a discount we were told no. Many in Beijing mention the NUO hotel as a great place to stay but our stay was ruined by truly incompetent, uninterested front desk staff. I have no complaints about the room service staff, ayis or the staff who worked in the one restaurant which was open during our stay as they were all extremely helpful and competent in what they did. Breakfast was great but expensive if not included in your room rate. On Valentine’s Day we also had the afternoon tea which was nice. The room itself was good and spacious but you would expect a 5* hotel to keep up maintenance work and I did find pealing wall paper and stains in corners of our room which to me for the price you’re paying is unacceptable and needs attention. On the two extra days we booked we did make use of the pool and jacuzzi, both were good but I don’t think in a 5* hotel you should be forced to wear a swimming cap - we were made to buy these from the hotel so that we could actually use the pool. To summarise our review of NUO, it wasn’t worth our money at all to stay during the CNY period and we had zero prior warning to everything being closed down as mentioned above. In addition to this, with the front desk being extremely unhelpful in regards to acknowledging or offering some form of compensation for the error THEY had made we won’t be staying here again nor will we be recommending anyone to stay here. There are much nicer hotels in Beijing who know how to treat their paying customers and actually deserve...
Read moreLuxury? Yes, you will get it in you stay. Problems? For sure, some (and also a really “strange” charge), if you don’t speak Chinese. This was our impression during our long stay (6 nights) in NUO BEIJING HOTEL. First the good: really impressive lobby, beautiful room (but not well maintained), nice breakfast (not included, so we paid USD 25 each per day), good swimming pool and gym and well located. The lobby is really impressive: beautiful, huge, spacious, and not crowded. We had a cold check-in, what it maybe be something regular since it seems to be a business hotel. About, the room, it is really beautiful, with a relaxing bed, a well design bathroom, a nice closet and spacious area. To not say that the room was perfect, unfortunately it seems not well maintained, since the bath had one piece brooked and the wall had some really strange stains (photos attached). The location, is just ok; if I come back to Beijing, for sure I will book a hotel closer to the Forbidden City and others tourist’s sites, since the hotel is little bit far from all of these. The cons: first, the language issue, since most part of the staff don’t speak English… and when I say most part of it, I mean the concierge (yes! The guy that stayed most of our time as concierge didn’t speak English… just on our first day that was a lady as concierge who spoked a perfect English) and some of the waiters, which made the stay really complicated sometimes. On our check-out, the most sad impression: through booking . com, our stay, without taxes, was a price; but at 04:00am, during the check out process, the reception charged me a bill 15% more expensive; I tried to argue about the difference and also showed the booking reservation paper. But they just said that was a booking . com mistake and, 20 minutes later, to not lose my flight, I had to pay more. So, be aware: the price that you book maybe won’t be the price that you will pay before tax in...
Read moreBooked this hotel last minute. It's in a great location for easy access to the 798 art district with restaurants and a shopping mall nearby. SanLiTun is only a 20 minute taxi ride away. We were blown away by the elegance and beauty of the lobby. This awe continued into the room and the restaurant. The check in process was simple and efficient. Special thank you to Frank who is the warmest individual and helped with our check in and with helping us book our table at a restaurant in the city. He was also able to give us great recommendations for where to visit after the restaurant. The room was spotless and a beautiful welcome gift was left for us. The bathtub is insanely big with the ability to overlook the city. The shower is incredible... So large you could hold a party in it!! The bed is very comfortable and the electronic controlled black out blinds are always a welcome addition. Breakfast is served as a buffet style. But don't be put off by this. The selection offered is fantastic. From Asian breakfast options to Arabic to Continental to British. Cereals, freshly prepared fruits and pastries and fresh juices are all available (and delicious). A great aspect of the breakfast is the fact you can drop your card with the chef for some options such as eggs to be prepared per likely and dropped to the table rather than waiting at the station. Rutger was especially helpful when our coffee went missing and didn't arrive at our table after ordering with a server. Overall, a beautifully crafted hotel. Already...
