I like Chongqing Marriott for being a newer hotel with modern and open room design, clean, with many friendly and supporting stuff.
The reason that I gave an overall rating score 8 out of 10 is my experience after dining at the main restaurant during my stay. Upon finishing dinner that night, I approached the service counter at the entrance of the restaurant to pay for the meal. A man in black suits said he cannot take cash in RMB since his register is already closed for the day (at the time of payment, the restaurant is still in operating hours, there are other customers present for dinner, why can't you take cash payments?). He insisted that I pay using my card. I agreed by giving him my Marriott Bvy card, however the guy in black dress could not successfully process the transaction. This time he insisted that I either go to the main checkin counter to pay cash or putting the charge to my room. I agreed to have a room charge Since the checkin is on a different floor! How can such a simple payment for dinner would become a so complex matter! Over and over, the guy insisted his own way of doing business over the customer's preferences! As a Platinum Member, I never experienced anything like this in the past! Isn't money or cash the legal tender for any charge? The guy did not know how to assist and accommodate the customer. I found annoying that he insisted his own way instead.
This could only be an isolated incident caused by an individual, which does not represent the majority of the stuff at the hotel who are customer oriented and friendly. But such isolated case is certainly below the Marriott standards and could make the overall staying at the hotel...

In fact, when I arrived at the hotel, the receptionist informed me that because of the ton of guests for the holiday, there were no rooms and asked me to wait in the executive lounge on the 47th floor.
I finally entered the room after waiting for an hour. The room didn't even have any fruit, let alone any other. The next morning at 8 o 'clock, I heard a very loud conversations around my room. It's like sleeping in an amusement park.
This is the first time for me to express my displeasure. I called the hotel and told the room i stay was noisy. Miss "Service" told me that her manager would contact me later.
In the afternoon, when I was watching a movie, I received a call from Hotel and she told me, "Sir, I'm sorry, there are too many people on Golden week . please be understanding. " I'm not just a traveler I'm a platinum and a fan of marriott. I told her, "you should be considerate to your guests." So I hung up. she was arrogant and unapologetic to tell me I could upgrade my room by personal text message. I refused and told her that what I wanted was not a suite, but a comfortable, reassuring, home-like experience.
Nothing happened for the coming next days, and she was like no guest ever had any...
Read moreOverall, a good Marriott but there are some areas for improvement.
Pros very large suite upgrade due to Titanium status executive lounge access with decent hot food in the evenings and selection of alcoholic beverages. Soda and coffee throughout the day. excellent pool, ideal for lap swimming (but no marked lanes). Quite long but only about 4 feet deep. Gym and pool are on the 27th floor. hotel is still in good shape, but showing wear around the edges: broken automatic shades, stuck sliding doors, random/odd odors, peelong ceiling, etc. amazing open air rooftop area on the 50th floor. Skybar appeared permanently closed.
Cons hotel does not enforce it's nonsmoking policy, which was frustrating. Someone kept smoking near the gym everyday, but staff didn't notice. fitness center has four treadmills. One was marked as broken, but others had issues too (software gltiches), but front desk staff didn't understand or cared to fix these. despite being an international hotel, English amongst staff was not prevalent. location is semi isolated, so will need to use taxis to get around Chinese firewall was particularly strong here. Commercial VPNs were...
