The Clayton Hotel is a Chinese hotel and they don't really cater for Western stayers. Reading some reviews from others past they had a real dig at the poor breakfast and lack of English speaking skills. Let me set things straight, there is plenty to choose from at breakfast and whilst predominantly Chinese there's a fair assortment of cereals, pastries, fruit, other other normal items. If you wish to be adventurous then try the Chinese food and enjoy the experience. |Probably the biggest issue is the English speaking skills and yes it's fair to say they really do struggle. But if you take your time and offer due respect to people trying to speak a foreign language then you'll sort things out, patience is the key. |The rooms are big and offer all items. |They offer a shuttle to the Canton Fair which we used but make sure you arrive at the right time because there's only 1 leaving per day, check with reception. If you miss that as I did you cant get a taxi to take you to the fair due to the short driving distance and traffic conditions and you'll have to walk. The walk is about 5kms so not too bad but you arrive a bit hot. Being from Australia we're used to the heat so we cope but I'm sure others would find it quite distressing, get the shuttle. There's an onsite pizza/pasta restaurant that's fabulous and it has an amazing assortment of beers from around the World, we tried to work our way through them all one evening. It's a relaxed enjoyable place.|At the end of the day it's a Chinese Hotel but blimey you could be in a whole lot worse as I have been so keep things in...

Read moreBarely a two star facility, certainly not a four star establishment. Although it was probably the largest of the rooms we had and the bed was nice and firm, that’s the best I can say about it. It was not clean, the linens were worn. Toilet and bathing in the bathroom, but vanity in the room. The neighborhood was not nice for evening walks. The breakfast was awful – in a dining room with carpet that should be burned because I doubt it could be cleaned!, and dirty/splattered/peeling wall paper. Leftover tape was on the walls where decorations had been. Although they had about 12 dishes on the buffet that should have been hot, they were all cold – no sterno and no warming below, although that was what was intended. The bread/rolls were stale, the only milk was soy, minimal fresh fruit. The next morning the breakfast was to move to a different room. We left before the breakfast time, but we did see them setting up the food. It might have offered hot food, but the room was not arranged for convenient serving – another negative. The desk staff was either good or marginal – depending on when you were there and with whom you talked. I asked for a map and was given one that was completely in Chinese. I found out later that an English map was available, although our guide later told us it was out of date. (How had is it to supply a good map for foreign visitors!) I do not recommend and...
