Love the location of this hotel, it has this commanding view over the entire old town, quite easy to walk down to the old town, do call a taxi when you come back, costs about $2, too tiring to walk up the hill at 3300m. I want to emphasize the location because the taxi can take you from a back road to the hotel instead of through the old town to avoid horrendous traffic so it is really wise not to stay somewhere you will get stuck in the traffic as it is a very tourist place for the Chinese. I also wouldn’t stay outside the town like in Banyan Tree because a friend had a hard time calling a taxi to be picked up unless you want to spend a lot lot more getting to the sightseeing places and getting food.
The hotel has a beautiful restaurant and lobby entrance but lacks facilities, no gym, swimming pool or spa or anything else. So if you are not touring, it gets boring being here.
The room is on the small side but the mini bar is stocked for free ( only non alcoholic drinks).
Book the restaurant early as you might not get a seat especially when the weather is bad and it is a high season. I was told to go down to town in the rain to eat because it was fully booked. They have a big menu but frequently they don’t have 50% of the dishes you want to order.
All said, I would still highly...
Read moreWe stayed in a balcony room for one night and were generally very pleased with the standard of the room, the view and the facilities. Only issue: the balcony door is almost impossible to open as it is so heavy and does not easily run on its mechanism. In fact, we had to move rooms as the balcony door in the first room dislocated from its rail and could not be put back, even by the maintenance guy whom we had to call and who spent about 20 minutes trying to repair it before giving up.|Otherwise no complaints. The view of the city and pagoda/prayer wheel is absolutely stunning (even if the lighting at night resembles Disneyworld more closely than Tibetan culture). The hotel restaurant is excellent. As we were exhausted and it was a rainy evening, we decided to have dinner there. We went for all things Yak (hubby had Yak burger and I had a Yak-meat Lasagne) and both were excellent. In fact, we had no room left for the Yak-milk cheese-cake, something I still severely regret! Breakfast buffet the next morning was excellent and very varied. Some restaurant staff spoke a bit of English while we did not come across anybody at reception who was able to communicate with us without the help of Google translate (which did surprise us in a 5-star hotel with respective prices). Still, all in all, a very...
Read moreThis hotel is located at the center of Diqing and very close to ancient city. It is convenient to hang out there by walking from hotel. The hotel consist of many villas and has a special decoration inside room. The specialized food in restaurant is unique and affordable. Overall, it is a fancy hotel and I would like to visit again.
There is one comment I would like to give to hotel to improve further. During my visit, there are heavy snow and cause the road very slippery, especially the slope just outside of hotel. On my departure day, I drove down along the slope but my car was lose control and crashed to a wall. Fortunately, nobody hurt from the crash. It would be great if hotel provide more clear safety guidance and alarm to visitors during bad weather as safety is 1st priority of trip and for new comers to Diqing are lack of experience of driving on...
