N32°02'32.1 E118°49'05.2" (WGS-84) This skyscraper 5-star hotel, with helicopter landing on the roof, on the East Zhongshan Road is next to the Nanjing Museum and near the Purple-Gold Mountain with the Dr. Sun Yatsen tomb. From the red metro line 2, exit 1 of Ming Palace (Míng gùgōng) station it is 50 meters to the west. ||||We arrived by taxi from the Nanjing East Railway Station. The door attendant handed us a card with the text: "Should you have any problem with the taxi you have boarded, please retain this card and contact our assistant manager". The number of the taxi was written on the card. Before arriving in China, we read many horror stories about taxi swindles and how to avoid them. This hotel service will further root out taxi swindles on foreigners and extent Chinese hospitality. ||||Our room in August 2017 was 2922 on the 29th floor of the hotel. It has a great view to the east. The room is large with a king size bed, which slept a bit too hard. The room has air conditioning, fridge, telephone, room save, iron and ironing board and desk. The bathroom has an excellent shower, bath and a Japanese toilet. Fun. Wi-Fi-reception is good.||||The interior of the hotel is dated and although clean showed ware and tare everywhere. Maintenance tries to keep the hotel in good shape but is clearly lacking behind. A complete overhaul within a couple of years is imminent. An elaborate Western, Chinese and Japanese breakfast is served in the central hall belong the swimming pool. Great coffee. Good start of the day. ||||Grand Metropark Hotel Nanjing is on the eastern side of town, a short metro ride from the centre of town. The room was large, double bed a bit too hard and interior dated and worn. Breakfast and...
Read moreI work in Nanjing 1 or 2 times a year and accommodation is paid for by work arrangements. The price is reasonable considering I'm there for 2 to 3 weeks at a time. The problems is that I probably get the worst rooms because I'm a captured client and the better rooms are made available for tourists and the usual Chinese weekenders that love the place. For me 3 out of 4 times the air con does not work and management claim it's turned off in Winter. This is policy for Chinese Hotels but shouldn't be the case for international standard hotels. Clearly this hotel is not international and that's one reason I'm allowed to stay there paid by Chinese funds.||The hotel is impressive in its grandeur but it is old. I wouldn't hold that against them and the price is appropriate for its age. The website is WAY out of date. There hasn't been an Italian restaurant in the building for at least 4 years (despite the signs in one elevator and the web page saying it's on the top floor). So some signs haven't changed in 4 years and neither has the menu changed (breakfast nor dinner). If you get a room with a non-functioning air con, expect humid air with the slight smell of burnt bearings (from the fans in the central system) to permeate your room. If you're lucky you might get a room with a window that opens, otherwise just suck it up for your stay. Staff are friendly and will help where they can. Guys at the front door are usually really good. Rooms are old and showing the wear. It's true the showers are in need of renovation and...
Read moreWe recently took a trip across China and I learned quickly, that every hotel bathroom struggles with black mildew in the showers--due to the humidity outside. I didn't have any bleach spray on me, but wondered if any of it could be managed by the product. We arrived at the Grand Metropark around 9:00pm. The hotel was booked by our travel agent. We stayed at 5 hotels in China during this trip and the Grand Metro was so icky, I am writing a negative review. It takes a lot to make me want to warn travelers, but here it is. Don't stay at this hotel. The rooms are very dated (think 1990s), cigarette burns on the carpet, the bed hard as a rock and very low to the ground and the bathroom shower was disgusting with rampant mildew. I took a Kleenix to the hinge to see how embedded the mildew was--came right off on my tissue. So clearly, no effort at all to clean that shower because it could have easily been wiped off. We told the manager who said he'd send up a cleaning crew. We declined that offer because it was late and we just wanted to go to bed. This may have been a decent hotel in its day, but in 2019, it's a dirty and tired hotel....
