I stayed at Holiday Inn Express SHANGHAI ZHENPING on 14-16 May 2016 but could NOT find any record of my stay in my membership record. Why?????????
I think there are almost a dozen IHG hotels in the Shanghai area, and I have stayed in many of them. Generally my experience with the IHG hotels is very good. On my recent trip to Shanghai on 14-16 May 2016, I deliberately tried the Holiday Inn Express SHANGHAI ZHENPING, and like to share my first stay experience with this hotel. On the whole, the staff and services provided by this hotel was good, and I am pretty happy with the service. However, two BAD incidences spoiled my otherwise very pleasant stay at the hotel, and they were - a) I had told the front desk and reception staff of my LATE 4pm check-out EVERYDAY for two days and no less than four times. Yet on the day of check-out I received no less than four phone calls asking me what time I am checking out. I find this EXTREMELY IRRITATING and UPSETTING. b) I did not eat the hotel breakfast on 15 May, but decided to try the hotel breakfast on 16 May. I was most upset that I could not have my morning coffee because the coffee machine had broke down. Despite REPEATED reminders by myself and lots of hotel guests, NO hotel staff, and I mean period NONE of the hotel staff were very eager to have the coffee machine fixed. So I just walked down the street to a fast food to have my morning coffee.
These two very bad incidences had spoiled my, otherwise, very pleasant stay at the Holiday Inn Express SHANGHAI ZHENPING. I hope IHG would ensure that such two very bad incidences do not recur.
Generally the staff and service of the hotel were great, if not for these two bad incidences. I would still stay at this hotel on...
Read moreLooking at the pictures and reviews, it wasn't surprising to me that this hotel is becoming quite tired in and out. My room was indeed quite unremarkable but manageable, although it was missing a mini-fridge that they advertised as available in upgraded rooms. The team was ready and eager to help - in fact they went out of their way to get me a cold welcome drink and a free laundry load after seeing the sad state of me after dragging my suitcases for god knows how long in the weird 33C temperature (IN SEPTEMBER!) which I appreciated a lot. ||What caught me off-guard was how poor the breakfast situation was. First off, it wasn't busy, but it was hard to find a table as they were not cleared in time. After finding a table and sitting down, I was again hit by how underwhelming the selections were - no real bacon, no real sausages, only two or three hot options and both were vegetarian. The breakfast crew also preferred to just stand around and chat away versus actually helping out. Being an older hotel is, in my opinion, no excuse to not being able to deliver a good breakfast experience, so I was not sure what the rationale was - to me it was almost like nobody bothered trying.||Yes, the only reason why 2 stars were ducted was because of the terrible breakfast, because I see that as an important part of the Holiday Inn Express offering in APAC - I may as well go stay at a local chain for half the price if HIEx gets this wrong every time. The thing is, other IHG hotels have already proven, consistently, that they can offer a good breakfast buffet, so what's stopping this property from doing just that? I'm looking forward to...
Read moreThis is not the first time we have stayed in this hotel as we had a positive experience last time. In general the rooms and nice and clean and the breakfast is good. ||||However, our check in experience was terrible and unprofessional. For some reason they could not find our booking. In total it took 55 minutes for us to check in. It was late at night and we just wanted to eat and go to sleep.||||The worst part was that after showing them our confirmation, they said because we can’t find it, we are going to charge you at our most expensive rate. This was over 100rmb more per night than our booking!!! We could not believe this. We argued this for over 30 minutes!!! They did not seem to understand.||||Eventually after 45 minutes they found our reservation and we checked in at our expected rate.||||Not once did they say sorry.||||We were not offered any upgrade or discount for all the trouble they put us through.||||We left feeling angry and bitter, this is our holiday that we want to enjoy.||||We live and work in China and have never had service this bad in China or anywhere in the world from our last 5 years of traveling.||||We are loyal holiday inn customers and are extremely disappointed with how...
