I have stayed in Holiday Inn’s for the past 10 years, I have been a platinum member every year since I chose Holiday Inn as my hotel of preference and this stay was the most horrifying experience I have ever had the misfortune to have. I had invited 6 other people to join me and had told them that Holiday Inn was the better choice since I had never had a bad experience with them – this was about to change. Let’s start at Check in – despite having a confirmation number they did not have my booking in their computer – Platinum member booked through Holiday Inn booking systems and they did not have my booking. Not finished – we booked 2 rooms through the Holiday Inn booking system and 3 rooms with C-Trip, the C-Trip rooms that were booked at the same level room were cheaper than the Holiday Inn system and they were booked on the same day … Holiday Inn could not give me a satisfactory answer as to why their rate was higher than C-Trip. Internet: We confirmed that there was internet however no matter how many times we complained the internet was simply not working even enough to check e-mail on the Executive Floor!!! The other rooms also had terrible internet connection except for one room. At one time my customer in the executive room called the night manager 3 times and was told 3 times that someone would come to the room to try to fix the problems – which were. No internet The toilet did not flush These for 4 days in a row were standing complaints. Breakfast in the Executive lounge – they ran out of food and did not replenish the buffet for 45 min despite requests from other guests as well. Breakfast downstairs (we went there to see if there was anything better) it was not much better. They ran out of food at the buffet and simply did not replace it until you asked multiple times. He cheese platter had enough cheese for 1 person and took more than 10min to replenish each time. The dishes were mislabelled – not only in English which I could understand to an extent but also in Chinese for which there is really no excuse. We complained to the duty manager and he listened carefully but there was no action taken to fix any of the issues we brought up … I have been in well over 100 Holiday Inn Hotels on 6 continents and I have never had such a bad experience – this hotel should not be allowed to call itself a Holiday Inn Hotel it does not even reach the standard of Holiday...
Read moreI was here with my wife to have a romantic getaway in Shanghai. We arrived on the first day and had a relaxing day exploring the area. The following morning we decided to stay in our room for a majority of the day. We went out for dinner around 5 and returned by 10. To our surprise, our room door wasn't fully closed and was left propped open by a wedge. I went and complained to the person in charge and explained how upset my wife and I felt. We checked our things and were glad that nothing was missing from our room. The person in charge called the manager and provided us with an apology right away. They then offered to upgrade our room and said that the manager will personally apologize to me at breakfast time. The rest of my stay at this location isn't bad. It's in Pudong and it's near a very accessible subway line. The location would also be recommended if you want to be near the bund but not worry about bund like hotel prices. The concierge at this location is incredibly helpful. One thing that surprised me that I wasn't used to. There is no executive lounge in this location. I'm used to having the executive lounge on the same floor as the executive floors. I can understand why they did this since the property is so small. I only found out later that executive floor members can get drinks on the 1st floor but I did not see a snack bar that is typically in an executive lounge. This is easy to see that the location was not originally a Holiday Inn hotel. The main staff are friendly and kind but I was truly upset about my door situation. I did tell the manager that I understand that people make mistakes but I didn't want the person to be fired or financially reprimanded if this was their first mistake. Another issue that I had was that the AC units in the rooms are really loud at night. You can't sleep with them on and it's not easy to fall asleep in a hot room. One recommendation for this location is that they should consider updating the locks on the door so that it beeps if it is not...
Read moreSince the hotel is just outside the main part of Shanghai the price is very reasonable. However, it's not that far. Only 32 RMB for a taxi from Peoples Square or a 30 minutes subway ride with one connection. The subway is about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. The hotel is in a quieter residential neighborhood with a lot of retail but few restaurants.
Front desk spoke decent English and the so did the evening concierge. However, the morning concierge could not. The lobby is fairly large with a sitting area inside and out. A nice touch is the large subway/metro map in the lobby that all hotels should have but don't.
This is an older hotel and it shows. Dark wood paneling throughout and so is the furniture in the room. Not worn down just old drab styling.
The room itself still looks nice and the mattress was firm but comfortable. No power or USB outlets next to the bed is annoying. The bathroom though is definitely showing its age with dirt and mold around the grout around the bathtub. A good scrubbing would help. The room also had a Mitsubishi air cleaner in it.
I'm saving the worst part for the end though. Now it's a no smoking hotel like all IHG, but you can definitely tell this was a smoking room. The moment I walked into the room I could smell smoke. Not from a previous guest but embedded in the room. I'm not sensitive and I stopped noticing it within the hour. They should have replaced all the carpeting and drapes and wallpaper of all the smoking rooms but obviously didn't. If you are sensitive make sure you request a room that was never a...
