It’s a boring kind of place with unexciting rooms but I suppose that is typical for this type of hotel. You probably can’t walk there judging by the maze of roads. And although it is about 1 km away from the station, taxis seem to need to travel 5 times that distance. I can’t see any particular benefit to staying here. When you do arrive, don’t expect a warm welcome. Also the two ladies on reception has no English, which is unusual for this type of hotel. The room was adequate but walls and doors are thin and the corridors reek of smoke. The worst thing though is that the 2 flat pin electrical sockets have a plate that stops you from using them! You can only use the 3 pin angled sockets which nobody carries. There is USB-A but all of my devices are now USB-C. I could hear through the wall the desperate attempts of my neighbour to plug in his devices, and failing. It is ridiculous. They give no warnings, advice or guidance about this. Thankfully my power bank had enough charge to get me through to my train the next day. I wouldn’t choose this hotel again. Better to jump on the MRT and travel 2 or 3 stops down the line for a better place with easier access and electrical...
Read moreI stayed there b/c the company I work for is a three minutes walk away. There is no other reason to choose that hotel. There are better hotels closer to the train station. ||This is a part of the Mercure hotel chain - on paper. In practice, it felt just like any mid-range Chinese hotel, so don't let that Mercure name affect your choice. There is nothing European about that place. ||That said, it wasn't terrible. The room was small, but clean. The staff spoke adequate English. The internet was okay - somewhat misconfigured, so my pixel phone indicated no connection, but it did work.||A/C clearly struggled to maintain 22C in the room. It was about 32C outside; on a hotter day, and Shanghai has plenty of these, the room is likely uncomfortable. ||Their own restaurant was being remodeled, so the breakfast was served in a noodles place next door. It was okay.||If you do end up there: there are three decent restaurants in the mall next to the hotel, a Japanese one and two Chinese. There are a lot more choices close to the...
Read moreThis hotel is not a 10 minute walk from the railway station, it took us 30 mins asking several people for directions. There are no directions on their web site from the railway station to the hotel. I emailed them twice asking for directions and never received a reply. At check their system was down and had to wait to be checked in. I asked what time the restaurant closed and was told 10.30pm. When I asked where the restaurant was they took me outside and pointed to the building next door which had some food outlets. There was no information in the room about the hotel or it's services. When I rang reception to ask something I was told that nobody spoke english and the girl put the phone down. This hotel is not suitable for western travellers and I am surprised that Accor puts it's name to this establishment. If this is the standard of other Mercure hotels I will be changing my...
