Review of Novotel Shanghai Hongqiao
I recently had the pleasure of staying at the Novotel Shanghai Hongqiao, and I can confidently say it was one of the best hotel experiences I’ve ever had. From the moment I arrived, I was impressed by the hotel’s modern design and warm hospitality. Nestled in the bustling Hongqiao district, the hotel offers not just luxury but a strategic location that makes it perfect for both leisure and business travelers.
Warm Welcome and Professional Staff
Upon arrival, I was greeted by a friendly receptionist who swiftly checked me in. The lobby was bright and airy, adorned with contemporary artwork that set a stylish tone for my stay. The staff at Novotel Shanghai Hongqiao were exceptionally professional and attentive. They went above and beyond to ensure that all my needs were met, providing recommendations for local attractions and dining options.
Spacious and Comfortable Rooms
The room I stayed in was spacious, well-appointed, and designed with comfort in mind. The large windows offered a stunning view of the city, and the bed was incredibly comfortable, ensuring a restful night’s sleep. I appreciated the thoughtful amenities such as a flat-screen TV, a well-stocked minibar, and a coffee maker. The bathroom was equally impressive, featuring a rain shower and high-quality toiletries that made my morning routine feel luxurious.
Dining Experience
One of the highlights of my stay was the dining experience at the hotel’s restaurant. The breakfast buffet was a feast for the senses, with a wide variety of options ranging from traditional Chinese dishes to Western favorites. I particularly enjoyed the dim sum and freshly made omelets. The staff was attentive and ensured that everything was replenished promptly. I also had dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, and the menu featured an array of delicious options. The ambiance was warm and inviting, perfect for unwinding after a busy day.
Amenities and Facilities
The hotel offers an impressive range of amenities. The fitness center was well-equipped, allowing me to maintain my workout routine during my stay. Additionally, the indoor pool was a fantastic place to relax, surrounded by large windows that filled the space with natural light. The business center was also a great resource, complete with high-speed internet and meeting rooms, making it an ideal choice for business travelers.
Location and Accessibility
The location of Novotel Shanghai Hongqiao is another significant advantage. It is conveniently situated near the Hongqiao Transportation Hub, making it easy to access both the airport and the city’s extensive metro system. This strategic location allowed me to explore major attractions like the Bund, Yuyuan Garden, and the vibrant shopping districts without any hassle. Moreover, the area around the hotel is lively, with several restaurants and shops within walking distance.

Read moreWe really enjoyed our weekend away at Novotel Shanghai Hongqiao. The staff were wonderful so friendly and helpful. I believe it was Helen a Duty Manager that helped us with our booking via WeChat. She was wonderful and they offered us the best deal by booking directly by ringing the hotel. ||Our room was very nice, spacious enough for the three of us and very clean.Toiletries were provided and if toothbrushes and toothpaste or extra amenities are required they are happy to provide these. Shanghai has new environmental rules regarding these so they are no longer in the rooms. Housekeeping made up our room beautifully the next day. The whole hotel feels clean and modern. ||We were there with our 2.5year old daughter and it was perfect for a little Staycation. They have a kids room with a slide and swing, a little ball pit, and rocking horses. Also some books. Our daughter loved playing in here and it entertained her for long periods. The swimming pool was lovely the change rooms were clean and they have a beautiful steam room with slices of agate all over the walls and a bed of small semi precious stones to lie or sit on. The pool is small as other reviews have mentioned but it was perfect for us to play in as a family. There is a nice courtyard balcony area outside the gym/pool complex too with water features.||Across the road there is a beautiful office block/shopping area(mainly convenience stores and food and beverage) Skybridge which has a ton of Chinese restaurants and some western style ones. This included Wagas (unfortunately this was only open Friday night and not over the weekend), Taco Bell, Starbucks, McDonald’s, KFC, there was also about 3 -4 other coffee shops too. The area there is lovely to walk around with a toddler - no ebikes whizzing by and some lovely landscaping. There was also an IMAX and a number of places still being fitted out waiting to open. ||We also ate delicious buffet breakfasts at the hotel. The selection was really good. Great western choices such as eggs, bacon, sausages, beans, hash browns, smoked salmon, cheese, piklets, pastries, delicious bread- (the toast was good not sweet), Bircher muesli, cereals and what appeared to be a really good selection of Chinese breakfast choices too. The staff again were very helpful and attentive and Priscilla was especially kind and helpful to us this morning as we had accidentally sent our daughters plate and cutlery off to the kitchen with our room service plates last night. ||Room service we had the club Sandwich, Beef Burger and Hainan Chicken Rice. These were all delicious choices. ||I am sorry I don’t have names for all of the staff but they were all so friendly and appropriately attentive from housekeeping to reception. Also there appeared to be a large number of staff with excellent English, but even if they weren’t confident with English we were easily able to communicate. ||Although I believe an Ikea is being built beside the hotel currently, we heard no construction noise, and nor did we have any issues with airplane noise. We did have a courtyard room, so this may have made a difference. But it was very interesting to see the construction happening from the swimming pool windows!||Thank you for your lovely staff, your helpfulness and the beautiful room...
Read moreI see that this hotel has pretty much good reviews, but for me this stay was generally a bad one from start to finish. Service at this hotel is quite poor and it's clear that the staff in general need some good training. I stayed at this hotel for 4 night for a business trip.||||I asked for a king bed room when checking in...was told this was not an issue...and yet I was given a double bed room. I did not bother to go back to reception to change the room. Room cleanliness was also not the best. One day I left the note for linen to be changed, and the linen was not changed.||||One day I arrived late at 9 pm, and ordered room service. The service center person took my order and repeated the order to me to check the details. At exactly 10 pm I got a knock on the door and a guy asked me what did I order and showed me the late night menu. I complained to him and to the duty manager about this. To add insult to injury, the duty manager almost accused me that I did not explain the order correctly. If so, then why did the service center person repeat me order ? and why they only came to clarify at 10 pm ??||||I sent a complaint email to the general manager and soon after I received a template "sorry email" without him even referring to the what happened and why it happened. Not the best way to handle customer complaints.||||To top it all, an item I gave for laundry was damaged. By this time, had given up on this hotel and decided not to complain anymore.||||I'm glad to see that many people had a great experience at this hotel. For me it was a disaster and I will clearly never use this...
