We stayed at the Regal Shanghai East Asia Hotel as part of our Wendy Wu Tour, Glories of China. Our stay was for 2 nights and what a surprise awaited us on our arrival. The Hotel is situated in a sports stadium, very unusual. Most of the interior windows look at the rear of the stadium stands, some with narrow views of the field inside. ||Our room was very clean & comfortable, although the beds are a little firmer than what we like, but still able to have a good nights sleep. It was a good size for a couple, toilet and shower facilities to a 4 star standard.||Breakfast buffet was very good, typical Chinese style with limited Western style food, but all the usual fair you would expect. As with most Chinese hotel breakfasts, most food is not as hot as we would expect, however we were happy with the large selection. ||As we were part of a tour, the check-in & check-out process was all taken care of for us by our brilliant tour guide. We were able to take a casual walk around the arena on our last morning prior to departure. Some wonderful gardens are located within the block and are worth a look.||All in all, I would be happy to...
Read moreThe Regal is actually incorporated into one of the stands of the Shanghai Stadium. It's of an excellent standard with good-sized rooms and large public spaces at the front.||Facilities include a gym and swimming pool and a business centre. Free wi-fi in the rooms was reasonably stable but of course due to Chinese restrictions on the accessibility of certain sites, you might want to use a browser incorporating a vpn.||Breakfast caters for western tastes, but also has Chinese specialities, eg tea-boiled eggs if you'd like to try them. ||From the breakfast room you're able to watch a small group of older people doing their daily tai-chi session.||There's a metro station nearby so although the hotel isn't right in the centre it's pretty easy to get around the city from it. ||One other thing, there's some construction work going on adjacent to the hotel ( as there is throughout the city ) so you may get a little noise, including at night. But actually we didn't really hear it even though we were at the front...
Read moreI stayed here for the national holiday. My aim was to relax, use the gym, and go swimming. As soon as I came into the hotel the staff were perfect. Everything was simple, and the room was amazing. I had a king size bed, mini fridge with freebies, water every day, bath, robe and fresh towels. The room was perfect to relax, and cleaned every day. The gym is very dated but does the job. The swimming pool was so nice and quiet! The restaurants in the hotel were so nice and fairly priced too. I loved the fact it was on the sport stadium, and guests can run around the stadium. Unfortunately I couldn’t as it was a national holiday. You also can’t enter if there are matches on. The metro is less than a 10 minute walk. I’ll...
