This hotel is in an excellent location - very centrally located for business or leisure needs. You can be downtown or at the Bund in 20-30 mins, or be dining at a great restaurant in 5-20 mins, depending on your tastes. The Century Park area is excellent for walking around or renting a bike and enjoying all the shops and sights. Lots of food options within walking distance, or within a 10-15 minute taxi ride.
The rooms are very clean and well maintained. Electrical outlets on both sides of the bed (USB on one side, regular electrical on the other). The only complaint I have is the bathroom - it is small and the toilet is located almost against the wall and behind a door - not very comfortable. The bath amenities are great - nice smelling shampoo and body wash.
Internet speed is pretty good. Had no issues accessing Gmail and other sites commonly used.
Breakfast buffet in the Brasserie had a wide selection of both Western and Eastern dishes. The Western offerings were authentic and not adjusted for local tastes - which is a VERY welcome treat!! I did not eat lunch or dinner in the Brasserie, but I took a look at the a la carte menu and noted that they had a great selection that would suit just about any taste.
Club Lounge was very nice, but gets crowded during Happy Hour - so if you plan to use the lounge, arrive early!
Check in and check out were very quick and efficient. Front desk staff, Brasserie staff, and Club Lounge staff all speak good to excellent English and are always very helpful.
Aside form the small bathrooms, I really enjoyed my stay at this hotel. The staff is great and the hotel is spotless and clean. Overall, a very nice experience in a...
Read more1-Star Review: Cheap, Stingy – Avoid This Hotel!
I’ve stayed in different hotels all over the world, from budget chains to five-star luxury resorts, and I’ve never encountered a place as ridiculously stingy as this one. As a Gold Member of this hotel, I expected at least basic courtesy—but no. This hotel charges ¥10 PER PAGE for printing! Even Holiday Inn offer free printing, but apparently, this place is so cheap they’ll nickel-and-dime guests over a few sheets of paper.
When I politely asked the concierge to waive the fee (like every other decent hotel does), they refused. I demanded to speak to the manager but I was told the manager was too busy to deal with a simple request. I was told to wait for him for 15 mins and he would come to explain why they always charge for printing. I was unwell and said I didn’t have time to wait and I’d just write a review. They said fine.
It’s not just about the money; it’s the principle. If they’re this petty over printing, imagine how they’ll cut corners elsewhere. I hate to say it, but this hotel embodies the worst kind of penny-pinching. They’d rather squeeze every last cent out of guests than provide even the smallest courtesy. Pathetic. I hate to say it, but the ‘cheap Shanghainese’ stereotype? This hotel is doing its best to prove it right. Charging guests ¥10 per page for printing—when even roadside hostels offer it for free—is next-level stinginess. I’ve stayed in budget dumps with more class. At this point, it’s not a stereotype; it’s a business model.
Save yourself the frustration—stay...
Read moreWe stayed here in September of last year to attend an event. This was our first trip to China and we liked it, except for the food and the LANGUAGE BARRIER. It's a non-English speaking country, so expect that most people won't speak with you when you ask them for direction. Not being able to use Google, YouTube or any other Google Services is also one of the issues people in China have to put up with on a daily basis. The Renaissance Shanghai is an elegant hotel. It's a well-situated hotel located in a quiet area in Pudong. The lobby was clean and inviting. We arrived there at noon time and had a dinner at Renaissance Brasserie. We were wondering why there was no one around in that area, but finally figured out the reason after tasting the food. If you're new to this place, the Vietnamese Restaurant located near the Laya Plaza is a must-try. Visiting The Bund and Nanjing Road are one of the top things to do in Shanghai. If you want to buy high quality replica handbags and suitcases, go visit the Fake Market, Shanghai A.P. Xinyang Fashion & Gifts Market, it's located near the subway station at Shanghai Science & Technology Museum. Make sure to prepare to do some dealing, though. You must be really good at negotiating prices. Use your haggling skills as their rates are a little bit higher for tourists but can be discounted up to 60-70% from the...
