I just spent 3 weeks at this hotel. It's OK. Better than some in the area (see my review of Hasse Paradise), but not as nice as some others where my colleagues stayed (iHotel, Gentlemen's Hotel)||||Shanshui is clean. Lobby was clean. Rooms where clean. There was no mold. There was no peeling wall paper. The carpets were clean. Street noise was a bit loud early in the evening, but wasn't bad during the night (my room faced the front of the hotel)||||Generally, the hotel is quiet, but the rooms are not all the sound proof...||||The beds are rock hard (which is normal for China). My room had 2 singles as did one of my colleagues who stayed here too. The 3rd colleague had a room with 3 singles. A bit odd.||||The room is basic. Bed. Sink. TV. Shower (the guy with 3 beds had a bath too). Kettle.||||Sub way (Bantian) is a bit of a walk (~20minutes) straight down the street. It's a bit dodgy along there at night. I was fine. I wouldn't recommend it to my 20-something daughter.||||Restaurants are not far the other way...maybe 10-15 minutes. Either straight up the street, or under the Gentlemen's Hotel (BTW, it doesn't have the reputation you'd think it would, if you're North American :-), but see below)||||There's also a grocery store (Vanguard) about 10-15 minutes up the street (away from Bantian station). ||||There were a few oddities about this hotel:||1. Read the text in the attached picture...what kind of hotel offers hourly rates? Not that I saw any of that activity...||2. There are rooms with circular beds and "on-display-showers". Not sure what you have to do to deserve that! I never saw it, but one of my colleagues who stayed there previously wasn't so impressed...she...

Read moreWhile it is near where I need to be for work, I wouldn't recommend it for tourist as it is rather far from the nearest Bantian train station (1km). Neighborhood is layback. Had to change room as the earlier had a humid smell (even the pillows). Careful to read the small print if u need laundry service. No F&B service if you expect one. Thankfully the front desk staff are friendly but not very knowledgeable about their services or the...
