Vienna Hotel - Shenzhen Minzhi Branch — Hotel in Shenzhen

I have stayed at this hotel on a number of occasions when visiting Shenzhen. I have a friend who lives close by and I have found this hotel to be most convenient for my visits. The rooms could use some updating, but in general are clean and professionally serviced. The hotel has a great Chinese Restaurant in addition to a Western Restaurant. I like having the ability to go down to the Western Restaurant to get a pizza or have a cup of fresh brewed coffee.||||The public areas are beautifully designed with nice marble floors and good architecture. I have given it only two stars as it needs new carpeting in the guest rooms in addition to some replacement of drapes. The existing carpets and drapes are fine, but look as though it is time to repalce them.||||One of Shenzhen's new subway lines just opened a new Station just 1 block away from this hotel. As a result one has convenient access to the entire city handy. I suggest that you get a room on the back side of the hotel. The view from this back side is of a tall apartment building just across the alley, however it is quiet on this back side, and there are drapes available to close in order to give oneself privacy. I have stayed a few times in rooms on the front side of this hotel. Because the hotel is located at a very busy and large traffic intersection, there is a lot of street noise. As I am visiting from a quiet American suburb, I found the street noise very noticible and needed to use ear plugs in order to enjoy quality sleep-time after about 5 AM. I did not need to do this when I have had rooms on the back side of the building.||||I do not speak Mandarin, but have generally found a few hotel staff who could speak English to help me during my stays here.||||The price of the rooms are very reasonable and make this a bargain location if you are comfortable being outside of the main...

I returned to stay at this hotel for 2 separate visits during November 2016. I had stayed here in the past, and I liked its location. My first visit here was in 2008. Since then the property has slowly declined. This is a very busy hotel, so it is understandable that on-going maintenance and upgrading should be done at regular intervals in order to maintain the property at a certain standard. In this case the hotel has slipped. ||||The front desk staff and housekeeping staff were all very professional and pleasant. I observed that the English skills of the workers have improved over the years. ||||Other Observations:||||Shabby carpets in the hallways||Area rugs have been placed over the carpets in busy areas to hide the carpet wear.||Strong cigarette smoke smell in a non-smoking room||In-Room safes non-functional||Rain water dripping onto the room floor from a window casing||||I observed that this hotel has done some remodeling. My bed on both occasions was very comfortable, and some of the furniture had been reupholstered. I was in Shenzhen for 5 nights in late December 2011. I chose this hotel as it is close to a friend who I visit in Shenzhen. This hotel continues to be a great deal for the price. In addition it is just 2 blocks from the Baishilong MTR station (Part of the Shenzhen new Subway System). So, you have the entire metropolitan area very convenient for you. ||||My room had a new TV that also functioned as a computer. This was very nice! The TV is a 32 " LCD I believe. The hotel has about 50 TV stations on their system, however I found only one station which had any English programming. I ended up watching video content via the computer part of the TV.||||Virtually all of the guests at this hotel are Chinese, so it is not oriented for a western tourist, however it has a western restaurant that has good diversity on the menu. In addition it has a huge Chinese restaurant.||||You may fine just one or two employees who speak English. Fortunately, there was one at the front desk when I checked in.
