Location is central, just across the street from Pinjianglu. Although it is quite near the Humble Administrator's Garden, it is not within walking distance. It is perhaps one of the better hotels in the area but it is not international 5 star standards so do manage your expectations. Concierge service was good and personable but the rooms we booked (Tianjin VIP rooms), while large and spacious, was not kept up to the standards expected of an international 5 star hotel. My husband stepped into something sharp and bled immediately upon stepping into the room (we usually go barefoot indoors in our rooms). We immediately decided to wear the indoor slippers provided in the hotel. The breakfast spread was quite ok although we are perplexed that they only set out the table with chopsticks and spoon when they also served western dishes like waffles, bacon, baked beans etc where the use of the chopsticks are not practical. The hotel should really look at the details and improve on their service. The hotel is not cheap- we paid approximately RMB1000 for each room during a low...
Read moreThe gated hotel is a co-op made up of restored and new buildings, a restaurant, and a spa, but nothing over 3 stories. There are numerous restaurants once you leave the grounds -- go west. Get the breakfast buffet, it is worth it!The tourist center is a block west and next to the Grand Canal. Go there, and ask the nice young lady how to get around. The hotel will give you change for the bus. The police and information will help you in the metro.Be sure to walk up and down the canal, enjoy people watching, especially the young ladies dressed and made up in beautiful period piece costumes. You can rent one yourself if you wish to participate. Most of the tourist sights are within walking distance, including the Humble Administer's Garden and the sanpan ride on the canal. The hotel also has a nightly cruise sign up.If you want to see a panda, you'll have to go to the Taihu Wetland Park -- it's about 30 km from the hotel. You can get there by cab or public...
Read moreThe hotel is centrally located in the most convenient tourist area where the famous Suzhou Museum and gardens are within walking distance. However, it is rather congested if you were to travel by car to other areas in Suzhou. We managed to call hired cars during week days and non public holidays but heard that it could be extremely congested during weekends. The upgraded room class we booked was not too up to our expectation but the hotel staffs were very accomodating and offered us to switch to one with balcony and better views. Cleanliness was fine but has room for improvements. Don't expect a n extravagant breakfast but it is okay. The coffee machine a bit old n has a queue. Nevertheless, you can purchase Starbucks coffee onsite for a better taste. The Chinese garden area is very relaxing for tea and quiet moments. Very enjoyable stay indeed. Thanks to the staffs and...
