Wyndham Garden Suzhou — Hotel in Suzhou City

As part of a tour group, we got in quite late and saying that, the staff were really quick to get us through.||||The hotel has gone through some renovations and the amenities are modern and great. The only downside is that the infrastructure that cannot be fixed are showing their age, eg; the shower recess had dried mould. It was not active but had stained the tiles.||||The carpet was also showing its age.||||Aside from that, you cant really fault the hotel. There are plenty of other amenities close by and for the adventure seeking, exploring the various shops is amazing.||||The buffet breakfast was great, catering to all tastes. I noted one review that complained that the Chinese restaurant did not cater to Western tastes???? Hello, it is a CHINESE restaurant. If you want western food, KFC and Maccas are just outside. We found the restaurant reasonably priced and the food was great. ||||Another complaint I had read was the staff not speaking English. I think this is an unfair expectation. Although the staff could not speak fluent English, they wore great smiles and were happy to assist. We expect staff to speak English but we don't try to learn the local language. An ok hotel in a convenient location for shopping in the modern part of Suzhou.|Room was as expected, clean, well maintained and comfortable with excellent double glazing that stopped any noise from the adjacent main road. Breakfast area large and noisy with limited choice for non Chinese guests. Stayed for 3 nights and each morning something had emptied (eg hot water or cold milk for Tea, juices) but was not checked or replenished until brought to their attention. Booked due to location and the outside swimming pool. Did not use swimming pool as (now I know) both male and female bathers need to wear a swimming hat which unlike other hotels they could not loan or sell. Apparently could buy from a sports shop but no one knew exactly where! We enjoyed our stay in this hotel. The front office staff Catherine and Kenneth were friendly and helpful. The family suites were super spacious and we fitted there perfectly with our family of 4. The bathrooms are well designed and clean. The hotel a little dated and could do with a touch of renovation. We loved the location especially the street life behind the hotel,local street food and “Kiss Bar” that played good music. It’s also close to SIP (Suzhou mall) only 5 km away and the forest water park is only half an hour by taxi. The architecture in area is beautiful! One down side for us was that the outdoor swimming pool was not operational but this information was not provided (we particularly chose this hotel for the outdoor pool so we were quoted disappointed on arrival).
