The Front Desk/Reception was very welcoming (Philip) actually anticipated our every question. Helped with anything we needed. When we were going for a walk, brought water for us to take and also helped us with the Afternoon Tea booking. There was a little confusion about Afternoon Tea, as I am British when I say Tea, I do not just mean the drink, but the actual meal. And Philip sorted this out. The two ladies, Krystal and ?? cannot quite recall the other lady's name were excellent. James and his staff made our Breakfasts (2 mornings) very relaxing ~ delicious spread, by the way, and nicely presented. Lady who cleaned the room was very friendly and cleaned well. Oh, on our first day (30th June) the man who was reading the temperatures/checking people...so friendly and even greeted us with a "Welcome Back" as we had just gone off for a walk. The door man outside...very kind, helpful with the taxis door, offered to carry our baggage etc. And the Concierge was knowledgeable re: places to go about the area. Love the Tourist Map! All staff were excellent regardless if they spoke fluent English or not. Those who did not know English as well, were kind enough to listen to our dreadful Chinese. IMPROVEMENTS: For Afternoon Tea: please have a smaller spoon available to be able to eat from the small glasses. One of the lady's quickly dashed off to get small spoons for us after we asked. Please do have Rooibos, Earl Grey, for your choice of teas too. Would be nice to have sandwiches and scones on the Afternoon Tea menu, however, the fusion of East and West did work. Breakfast: next to the condiments: honey, jams etc. please have small dishes to put the jams/honey in. We truly did enjoy our stay at the Shangri-la (Tianjin) and will be comparing it to the Shangri-la in Shanghai next week (LOL) Thank you so much! Excellent Service!! Delicious Meals! A fantastic Respite. (And we have already told some of our...
Read moreThe Shangri-La, Tianjin, is, and has always been our favorite Hotel to visit. This week was a special celebration for us, as we celebrated our 15th Wedding anniversary, as well as our 4th consecutive year in China. We relocated to another City / Province, about two years ago, and was unable to visit and enjoy our special Shangri-La.Prior to us moving from Tianjin, we used to celebrate all our special occasions and milestones, at this branch of Shangri-La.We would always spend our Christmas, New Years, and Chinese New Year's at Shangri-La.Now that we have returned to Heibei, we look forward to continuing this tradition.Things change over time, some familiar faces are no longer working there. However, the new team made us feel right at home again, and went out of their way to make our stay most memorable and special. As I mentioned to one of the team members, it's not the spectacular Lobby Lounge, nor the beautifully decorated features, that make the establishment, but rather the people.Without quality staff and superior service, no establishment can ever rely on reoccurring business. For as long as these values are in place, this Shangri-La can be certain of our patronage. All team members provided excellent service, from the bellhop, to the waitresses, from the front of house to the housekeeping and of course the management team.Special thanks to "Francis", the new General Manager, "Danny", the Food and Beverage Director, as well as "Billy", the "Food and Beverage" Manager. This trio of Management, ensured that we received the best service possible.Lastly, we would like to thank "Roger" whom assisted us with a Driver / Transportation, upon our early departure. No visit to Tianjin, would ever truly be complete, with visiting The...
Read moreOverall we had a lovely stay here. The location is great, and the rooms and reception area were beautifully decorated. The pool and gym were amazing (best hotel gym I've ever seen!), and never very busy. Staff were friendly and polite. And there was never a queue for the lifts. There were a few niggles which I'll list below for other people who appreciate these types of details, but they were by no means deal breakers. Niggles included:- we always had a long wait at reception to be served- the deposit is large (almost the price of the stay again)- no plugs on one side of the bed so you can't charge your phone next to you- the minibar wasn't very cold- no takeout delivery to rooms (usually this is done by robot)- beds are very soft which might give some people backache - our toilet cistern kept running (we fixed it ourselves every time)- the shower leaked- the blinds over the windows are all or nothing, there are no curtains that you can just pull over part of the window- the swimming pool is very shallow at just 1.2 metres with no deep end - this made swimming difficult for both of us as we're on the taller side- you must sign a declaration before every swim/workout (I think once per customer would be enough!) and wear a swimming cap in the pool (the hotel...
